It’s a distance guy… done deal… won’t happen for a bit but it’s done.
It’s not a done deal. I know that for a fact. Nice try
If you are in the know, give some details...
even if you can't name names, what is the ADs thought process. I believe the AD is new and different from the one that oversaw the dismantling of the track team and I have also seen news articles and community push to invigorate track program as a whole in Boise.
Are they going for a distance director in an already crowded Mountain West XC field, or are they open to other events groups? Or maybe they have an non distance event group that the AD specifically wants to oversees the program?

I have no special insight to the BSU job but it appears to me that there may be a shift in the MWC more towards the track end of things as a whole. I think the new UNM coach is going to be more track focused than Franklin was... not that UNM won't be good in distance but that they also want to be good on the track end when it comes to conference championships. I kind of feel that Boise is going to go that direction too... but again no direct knowledge.
So that's two former XC powerhouses that may become more track balanced... might open things up for some of the other less track focused schools... (AF essentially has unlimited scholarships so they don't have to focus on one or the other and CSU has regularly done a good job of doing well in both XC & track). just my two cents
Mountain West is a crazy conference. There are several schools at altitude - New Mexico (5300), Air Force (6000), Utah State (4500), Colorado State (5000), Nevada (4300), and Wyoming (7200 ft and friggin windy). The schools at/near sea level - San Diego, San Jose, UNLV, and Fresno - have HEAT. Boise State and UNLV (women only) are the two with half the elevation of the other mountain schools. UNLV women are all in with sprints with Jeter as their head.
If Boise State is fully funded with men’s/women’s scholarships, they would do well to hire a generalist. Get someone who can pivot to capture points depending on the strengths and weaknesses of the conference any given year. Going all in with distance backfired. I think they tried to be a sprints program before that. Cover the bases, be a chameleon. It should always be strong in distance imo. Get those Northwest kids.
Doesn’t seem like any big head coaching jobs are opening. The elder coaches likes of Henry, Shaver etc are not retiring any time soon. What job will start the domino effect?
If it's Braden, that's a great distance hire! If that's the case they'd be smart to announce it quickly.
What has Braden done of late? I forgot he was even still coaching honestly.
What does that question even mean? You can clearly google search and see he’s coaching at William and Mary and has been for some time. That’s what he’s done lately. There’s no other answer but that one

He’s a terrible choice with no success. For Boise’s sake I hope it’s just a rumor

And who are you to judge this? You’re presumably an adult posting anonymously on a running message board about someone who doesn’t even know you. Who have you coached? Exactly

Exactly.
What Braden has done lately is coach at W&M. I have my own squad to be concerned with so I don't follow results. What I do know is Braden is a good coach. Hence the reason I say it would be a good hire if Boise wants to stay distance focused... maybe they don't want to.
Gavin is a good coach too... if they stick with him maybe they become more track centric.
Braden is a scrub. They need to fly it and see what applicants they alls get. Boise could be really good with a coach that knows how to actually build a winner. They hire without flyin it they don’t care.

If I was BSU, I would take a look at WV Charleston's head coach (D2) and Lynchburg's (D3) Distance coach. Those are 2 solid coaches.
