New Gen Camp = Misogyny Training for High Schoolers

Talked to someone in the running media community about this. Their video from Nuttycombe was passed on to the Wisconsin SID for track & cross country, though in fairness, it doesn't appear Crawford had a credential. USATF & the NCAA already know about these guys. Hoping that other schools & major college/HS meets pick up on this.

This is probably worth a different thread, but something that all of this makes me think of is a larger issue within the sport of track/xc, which is that, because of its small status to the wider sports culture (aside from the obvious superstars like Kipchoge, Bolt, etc), so much of the commentary of our sport is actually about high schoolers. Anyone following the sport is aware of some high schoolers as household names. The Young brothers are probably just as well known as many professionals.

There's a huge concentration of media energy on high school track/xc. I bet that's where such a huge fan base comes from, too. From 15-18 year olds who are living and breathing the sport for a few years of their lives. I'm a baseball and basketball fan, for example. And though I know some of the top high school prospects, I don't follow the high school scene to the extent that I do with track/xc.

All that to say: the sport's media entities need to think about how to responsibly cater to that large fan base who probably bring so much energy and social media awareness to the sport. New Generation seems like an example of how to irresponsibly cater to that fan base -- by exploiting their immaturity, their youth, their desire to be seen. I really view a lot of their work as exploitative. It's low-hanging fruit. They are seizing on the energy of that fan base, but also that brief moment in their lives when anything seems possible: fame, dreams, whatever. Anyways, that's some food for thought.

Lol this is funny. However, the point of the thread is about mentorship breakdowns. High school kids eat this crap up because they want to be treated like adults. They crave being grown up and the romanticized college lifestyle. When they go to this camp they get treated like "adults" and are given autonomy to create. Unfortunately, the leadership seems to be more interested in being cool than leading.

If you have an issue with Billy, start a new thread. You guys posting on here about other people is taking away from the point of this thread. This isn't a thread to pile on every person you don't like, this is about the incident at the New Gen camp and their culture.

I’ve wondered why would Wisner transfer from Duke to Oregon. Oregon is not an awful school academic-wise but it isn’t remotely close to the quality that Duke is. Oregon is the better school for T&F/XC but it’s not like Wisner set the professional world on fire.

Literally was just responding to dialogue where people started talking about Billy and said he wasn’t racist. Dude wasn’t blacked out drunk. He was running around in the street, full of energy. Don’t know what circles you hang in, but I’ve never heard any of my friends say anything like that before, no matter how drunk. Not trying to hijack this thread, as I was one of the early posters on it exposing important information on the New Gen guys since I used to have some overlapping friends with them. But if people want to bring up Billy, that’s a story worth knowing about him.

Another sketchy post to add to the list of stuff against these guys: The HS girl blogging about them posted a pic from camp, to which Ben commented “I don’t remember a thing.” She replied “I wonder why” with a cheeky emoji. Uhhh… red flag anyone? Also, on Ben’s most recent post, a counselor commented “why do I look like I took 14 edibles”, to which Ben tagged a college freshman, who commented “what you lookin at me for” with a playful emoji. Seems like a good bit of innuendo to some illicit activities going on at this camp with underage girls and men in their mid 20s…

Duke TF has not clout compared to Oregon TF, he saw the NewGen videos already being made and wanted some of the clout because he’s a clout goblin

Notice how the NewGen defenders are trying to make the focus about people being overly sensitive to a the initial photoshoot glorifying “old time high school bullying”? To keep the conversation away from the interactions between 25 year old guys and underage girls.

As flawed as NCAA and USATF are, if they are on it and watching they gained more respect for me.

2. Besides CU/other schools that might loan facilities to new gen, what are schools going to do if the come to meets. Is the prior comment seriously suggesting that we need armed officers or something to come to nuttycombe and escort new gen out if they try to come???

You dont need any kind of guard. You ban them from the premises. They aren't going to show up just to show up, they want to make content to make money. If you see further content filmed at your facility you hit them with trespassing charges.

Literally their entire shtick is sticking it to the powers that be, they will go, especially if they are banned. Prosecuting will only further the channel because it will show how much they are sticking it to authorities. They are entitled rich kids, they believe they are above the law.

Exactly, no running brand will risk being associated with him anyway after this. I would be surprised if he’s ever able to convince Cole or Cooper to appear in another video
