Yeah, i read a lot about this. THe numbers are not encouraging at all. Should be better prepared for retirement, don't you think?
Stuff like this is interesting to me because I had about $100,000 in investments by the time I was 29-30, and it was all just from a regular guy working hard and saving as much as possible. I didn't even have a high income job or anything. I just lived very frugally, and I started investing when I was 24... It seems absolutely insane to me so many people are 40+ years old and have almost nothing built up, even though I know it's reality for a lot of people. Personally, I would be absolutely terrified if I was 55+ and didn't have at least a couple hundred thousand, but I guess that's just me. Humans in general are very bad at delaying gratification for goals that are years or decades away.
Yes, agree completely.
A very interesting thing going on now with Trump starting those "Trump accounts" with a little seed money for newborns in order to foster a sense of participation and ownership in the stock market, and broaden participation. Michael Dell joining in with an initiative of his own, too.
A couple of states have pioneered the practice with baby bonds, so there's some lessons learned to work from.
That is encouraging, and may lead to broader participation in one very effective wealth building medium at our disposal.

Similar on our side. My wife has a degree and certification in elementary and special education. However largely by lifestyle choice to have her home with the kids, and the caregiver to an elderly parent, we had few years with double income. It amazes us how many people are dependent on service providers for the most elementary services or repairs. Knowledge on the use of tools is a lost art.

Reuters story on AI (another reality check) titled: "AI promised a revolution. Companies are still waiting"
Lots of great anecdotal stories in here on GenAI implementation. Below is one of my favorites. Come on...a 100-page document of rules should be cut and dried... but it…

Oh, crap.- reading this i just remembered that I have another repair to make on our bathroom sink.
I say "another" because I fixed the first one really late last night.
We have one Moen and the rest Delta faucets. I have worked on Delta enough to prefer it over Moen. I have done some preventive maintenance, like replacing shutoff valves.

Can't remember the brand of ours sink faucets, but Moen on the shower/bath. I've replaced them before but at the moment, just leaking mixing valve and leaking lever arm on the drain.
Replacing mirror on the vanity as well, and i just picked up the mirror but have to take apart the vanity door to install, after sealing cut edges with shellac so moisture doesn't delaminate it.
Last week cleared a major drain line blockage so I'm on a real streak!

I snake the master shower drain on a regular basis. Wife’s long hair. Worth the effort I think.

OT (off Topic): I do that only if clogged, but I do use a Bacteria Waste Eliminator regularly that is supposed to promote microbes. And i use a commercial drain cleaner as needed. Snaking is last resort, and that usually requires popping a clean-out i installed in the main drain line, which is a big messy undertaking.
Once i hired it out and it cost me over a grand, so not doing that again.

I have my own hand crank snake. Works well, probably on goes out 20 feet to hit the first critical turn. The shower is on the second floor, more preventative.
Merry Christmas. Unseasonably warm here, 60 degrees at the moment. Not much of a ski season around here. We will host our family and son-in-law’s family for Christmas Day dinner. My wife will make a feast as usual. I hope all the DGTD crew have a wonderful Holiday Season.
I do a theme on the present gift tags. This year had an Epstein theme. My wife’s was to Virginia Guifre from Jeffrey Epstein. Perhaps too off color for most recipients.
Seattle will appreciate the gift the wife will receive, a new iPhone 16e to replace her eight year old SE.

Coincidently, my wife got at 16e a few weeks ago - Cyber Monday, and with a juicy discount -good to see she is picking up on these things from the Pro, thank you very much.
She likes it a real lot, replacing an iPhone 7, believe it or not.
Holidays are a biggie here. Got to take care of all the digital eGifts now, and there's no more time to procrastinate, unfortunately.
I picked up my wife’s from the carrier. I looked around a bit, but decided just to upgrade her phone. I will continue to use my SE since I use it more as a voice phone than for data.

No kidding! I use the SE as well, 2nd gneration, and I use it for data as well as voice- suits me well. I use the hell out of that thing.
Hey, I can turn you on to a great little wallet/case for it if you are interested - haven't had to carry a wallet for a couple of years now that I have been using it.
I think if we got her phone off the carrier, we would have had to pay more in the long run because we would have had to upgrade our plan, so I am being told.

Been hitting 80 here and will continue until Sunday. It's my son's family's turn to do Xmas at the in-laws, we'll celebrate with the grand-kids on Sunday. I'm going to grill a tomahawk pork chop tomorrow. Usually, I serve it with sauerkraut, potatoes and applesauce this time of year. With the temperature so warm, I'll make my summer recipe. Lay the pork chop on a bed of arugula with slices of tomato, red onion and mozzarella covered in a creamy balsamic sauce. Was thinking of doing a pork roast on Sunday, but with the warm temperature and prime rib roast back under $20 a lb at HEB, it's back to the traditional rib roast.
My wife and I agreed, no presents this year. We just bought a brand new house and have been spending money buying things for it.
