Got to love the British media. One of the main newspapers ran this headline on its back page this morning along with the scathing write up which I think must be aimed at some of the commenters here.
Brilliant Ben Banishes Boorish Buffoons' broadsides'
British marathon superstar Ben Felton aka Benisrunning stunned his critics at the Chicago marathon today. Majestically gliding to a new PB of 2:23 on a hot, windy American morning. Fresh from his first sub 30, 10K a couple of weeks earlier, in what is now being called 'The Vitality Inferno 10K' Ben once again proved his detractors wrong.
On a day when the very air felt like dragon’s breath and the sun raged down with the fury of a thousand furnaces, he laced up his shoes, looked the heat straight in its molten eyes,
and said, “Not today, Satan. I’ve got a PB to run.”
Whilst the likes of John Korir wilted in the heat and Kiplimo blew up spectacularly in the closing stages, Ben held firm to continue his upwards trajectory and add fuel to the conversations that he is marathon running's next big thing.
Its hard to see him not beating Connor Mantz in the coming years, cementing Britain's dominance over North America in the distance running hall of fame.
This was just the latest of a series of embarrassing predictions and climb downs made by the users of a well known running forum discussing running youtubers. Following on from incorrectly analysing Besters, Floberg's, Truett's, Rees' running capabilities (amongst others) .
Maybe its time to admit that the running youtubers they so love to mock, actually know more about running than they do.
