It seems like the biggest fear of incumbent Republicans is that Trump will turn his base on him if they turn on Trump.
Here are 31 Republican senators that are NOT up for re-election in 2020 and will not be facing a primary challenge next year:
Richard Shelby (AL)
Lisa Murkowski (AK)
John Boozman (AR)
Marco Rubio (FL)
Rick Scott (FL)
Johnny Isakson (GA)
Mike Crapo (ID)
Todd Young (IN)
Mike Braun (IN)
Chuck Grassley (IA)
Jerry Moran (KA)
Rand Paul (KY)
John Kennedy (LA)
Roger Wicker (MS)
Roy Blunt (MO)
Josh Hawley (MO)
Deb Fischer (NE)
Richard Burr (NC)
John Hoeven (ND)
Kevin Cramer (ND)
Rob Portman (OH)
James Lankford (OK)
Pat Toomey (PA)
Tim Scott (SC)
John Thune (SD)
Marsha Blackburn (TN)
Ted Cruz (TX)
Mike Lee (UT)
Mitt Romney (UT)
Ron Johnson (TN)
John Barrasso (WY)
Are there 20 people in there with a spine that could vote to convict and throw Trump out?
They all will be still in office in 2021 regardless.
the saddest part of all this is that all of trump's terrible behavior and 'huh what are you so mad about' defenses just show the world what he thinks proper conduct by leaders is. He literally expects leaders to be corrupt, to break rules, break laws, break norms, lie, cheat, betray, steal, insult, intimidate etc.
that's how he sees the world and that's who we elected to represent us. He expects the senate to approve of his conduct because that's how you win. You lie, cheat, steal and you tolerate those who do.
god help us.

Oh buddy, this was another wild month! Several almost unbelievable things happened that continue to validate Trump's swamp-draining efforts.
Elizabeth Warren APOLOGIZED at a Native American summit for making her fraudulent claims about being Native American. "I've made some mistakes." LOL! You think? But wait- remember all of you who defended her? Probably feel pretty stupid now, huh? None of this comes out if Trump doesn't taunt her mercilessly. Thank you POTUS45.
Then, also early in the month, the Dems start literally rooting for a recession. Many had been doing it well before (like Bill Maher), but it really amped up with the bond yield inversion "matter". In reality, the economy itself is still doing quite well, and earnings have been coming in pretty strong. Trying to talk ourselves into a recession is an odd tactic. But the TDS crowd is desperate, and they'll go to any length to hurt POTUS45.
Then China- who clearly is getting the worse end of the increasing trade battle (their economy and stock market are getting killed compared to the US- tries to up the ante with their own retaliation. But it was only on $90B of product. This is, of course, after they also manipulated their currency to levels not seen in 2 decades. So Trump comes back immediately and says, "OK, higher tariffs now on $250B!!" Guess what happened next? China is at the table in 2 days, saying "we'll continue talks as long as everyone is doing it in a calm manner." LOL! OK.
Border apprehensions were down "BIGLY" once again in July. Two months in a row now, since Trump threatened major tarrifs on Mexico if they didn't start stemming the flow of Central Americans from making it to the US border. Remember how long that one took to resolve? Yep, 3 days after the threat, Mexico said they'd be sending their National Guard to their borders. Now the apprehensions are down some 40% in just two months. Thank you, POTUS45.
EPSTEIN! Oh, Epstein. The DAY AFTER... yes, the NEXT DAY... after one of his accusers names two prominent Democrats (both with close ties to the Clintons- Bill Richardson and former Maine Senator George Mitchell) and Prince Andrew as people she was forced to have sex with, he ends up "killing himself." Please. How stupid do they think we are?
The New York Times leaked audio of the Executive Editor speaking at an All Hands meeting. Wow! He admits the strategy was to constantly push the Russia Hoax, and even says they "did a great job covering the story"! Amazing. He even mentioned the Pulitzers they won! LOL! They were wrong about 90% of the story, came away with almost nothing, and they still pat themselves on the back. Unreal. But, the best revelation is that they will now be shifting to a new "story" (story apparently means "the bias/slant we'll be pushing at all times") on race and class. And what have we been seeing in the last month or so alrfeady? Yep... "Trump's RACIST!" Silly people.
And lastly, the IG Report on Comey's wrongdoing with regard to his illicit memos, lying, and leaking. Yep- he did all three! He 1) kept memos that were not his to keep (per the IG), 2) lied about having them, and then 3) leaked them to a friend to get them into the press's hands. What a noble, ethical man! LOL! The IG recommended that the DOJ do whatever they deem necessary with regard to these violations of FBI policy. They are not going to indict for this, as most believe that this is just the tip of the iceburg with regard to Comey's violations; the big stuff (FISA abuse, spying on a presidential campaign, etc) is still on the way. It's just nice to see the truth coming out. And what have we already seen from prominent journalists and celebrities suffering from TDS? Yep- backing illicit actions taken by a leader of our most-trusted institutions. Unbelievable.
So, another all-around great month goes in the books. And so as to not violate my own policies in tracking the Flagpole's Epic Flagpole Streak, we must add yet another month.
Oh yeah- Remember Avenatti? LOLOL!!
Mueller did NOT come (despite several opportunities, and a lot of desperate begging, to do so).
Barr IS coming.
The Clown has PROVEN to be Flagpole.
Current status of Flagpole’s Flagpole streak: 43+ months
Well, just when you think the desperate Dems can't get any more ridiculous, they go and gin up a fake scandal to begin a fake impeachment inquiry (before actually having any evidence- AGAIN)..... but then Trump ruins it by releasing a record of the conversation, which is far worse for Biden than Trump. So the whole "he's hiding something/cover-up tactic" falls apart immediately. It was classic Trump.
But to then take it to yet another level of ridiculousness, the Dems then actually defend the Biden's blatant corruption. Yes, while Biden was Vice President of the United States, his black sheep son (fired by the Navy for being coke head, for Christ's sake!, and then leaves his wife for his dead brother's wife) is hired by a Ukrainian Petroleum Company to sit on their board, for a measly $600K/year. With zero- that's right- ZERO experience in the field. Hmmm. And then Biden is caught ON TAPE bragging about withholding money from the Ukraine unless they get a prosecutor to stop investigating the company. Unbelievable. Biden is done, in case you aren't aware of it yet.
Let's not forget how silly the CIA "whistleblower" story is. Second and third hand information? Are you kidding me? Or how silly it is that the form that the "Whistleblower" used was just recently modified to not include a "first hand information" section, which typically carries the bulk of the weight toward making the account credible. It was changed in August. LOL. Nothing to see here though- totally normal- just a big coincidence I'm sure.
Then Adam Schiff literally makes up what he wanted people to think the transcript says, and reads it to Congress and the American people as what Trump said. It was amazing. Crazy times we're living in. It was great to watch Nunes sit right next to Schiff and call him out for being a lying scumbag, and congratulating he and the Dems on their "latest information warfare campaign against the president".
Following up on last month's IG recommendation to indict Comey, early this month the same IG also recommended indicting McCabe for his role in misleading investigators regarding the HRC Foundation probe. Little by little, it's all being proven what we on the Right have known for 3 years now- The FBI worked to help HRC elude charges for actually breaking the law, and worked to harm the Trump administration by spying and setting up Trump allies. This should offend any honest American. Unfortunately, TDS has infected much of the country, so they simply deflect and lie.
Lewandowsky testimony was hilarious. Even the CNN/MSNBC talking heads were saying Nadler and Co. "look like they don't know what they're doing" and have "allowed Lewandowsky to embarrass them again." How many more of these idiotic shows are we going to have to endure?
You guys see Avenatti is now suing Stormy Daniels? LOL! Some of the wackos on this thread thought he should run for president. Another good call that they're now surely just blocking out of their tiny minds.
Mueller did NOT come (despite several opportunities, and a lot of desperate begging, to do so).
Barr and Durham ARE coming.
The Clown is STILL Flagpole.

Ah, thought you skipped a month. 44 months of Clownpole being a whiny little bltch. Ugh. All to perpetuate constant conspiracy theories, anonymous speculation, and attempts to undermine democracy by a Washington Liberal Establishment that got kicked square in the nuts in 2016.
It's nice to see many journalists on the Left even calling out this latest "whistleblower" garbage for what it is. Just read a great Matt Taibbi piece on it this morning in Rolling Stone.
Meanwhile.....
unemployment is down to 3.5% (with all demographics breaking records),
middle class income is up big since 2016,
illegal border crossing are down huge since getting Mexico to help out (imagine that! LOL),
the first criminal justice reform bill in decades was passed (with huge support from the AA community),
someone is finally taking it to China on trade (after years and years of 'talking about it'),
we're communicating with North Korea in a meaningful way,
Trump continuously tries to bring the troops home.
the instigators of the biggest political hoax in history are now being investigated,
and the MSM talking heads have been exposed for what they are: extremely well-paid corporate puppets.
Biden is done.
Bernie just had a heart attack.
It's going to be Warren.

Convicting Trump in the Senate and removing him from office would hurt the whole Republican party image for years which will make it hard to fund raise and win re-elections down the road. Right now it makes little sense to do it because they can just claim "Democrats bad" and carry on with business as usual. If they actually hate Trump then working behind the scenes to secure his failure in 2020 would be way more prudent.
Unless public opinion swings hard in favor of impeachment then there's a 0% chance they convict

The Dems should organize street demonstrations. Millions of people in the streets might change the minds of a few elected Rs. And get the dems excited.

Trump is killing the Republican party.
It's only a matter of whether they stand up for themselves and take him out, or wait for the voters to do it and brand themselves as a Trump party.
They may heal quicker if they take control.
Like how they took out Nixon.
Sure, it lead to Carter for four years but then they got Reagan/Bush for 12 years.
I am only saying that displaying ethics could actually be helpful. I know that sounds crazy.
all the Dem sophisticates are so dismissive of biden - Through him I can see how the Trumpers feel a bit of eye roll every time the experts interpret polls.
Here's nate pointing out Biden's appeal in probably the most important state for 2020, WI, and another purple state, NC.

No, there are nowhere near 20 on that list. 5 at most.
As Trump said during the 2016 campaign he could shoot someone in the head in the middle of 5th Ave and his base (including GOP Congressional members) would still support him.

I have mixed feelings about generating that excitement.
You could be right.
On the other hand, it could backfire. Democrats need to strike a somber tone about this. Impeachment is not something to be celebrated. It's very sad for our nation.
So while a huge demonstration could be effective, it might also generate orange sympathy.
On the other hand, we all know agent orange will keep aggressively hitting back so less likely to draw sympathy. As the wheels start to loosen look for him to blame anyone (including those in his circle) but himself. Recent example was Perry - caught wind that Perry is not happy so immediately took to blaming him for Ukraine troubles. That's our alpha thick skinned leader.
The police and military fully support Trump!!!!

the women's marches a couple years ago were tremendous successes. They were peaceful, calm but fun. More of that would be useful.
Those organizers fell apart in a wild bonfire of leftist circular firing squads tho so someone else would have to step up.

All of the above is true. GOPers are stuck between a rock and a Trump place. They can't come out and not support him or risk their own electibility. If they work behind the scenes to ensure he's not re-elected, they risk very little with their own situations.

Despite their best efforts to pull another "kill Bernie", the Corporate Democrats are going to fail, and Warren is going to be the nominee. The adults in the room will be less excited about her than the kids in the room were about Hillary last time.
Which means Trump will win again. Watch for Nikki Haley to come back into the fray soon.
