You could have a full audio of Trump telling the Ukraine president that he will not release funds unless he gets dirt on Biden and McConnell would still block an impeachment conviction.

The impeachment inquiry is a way of elected Democrats saying to the voters, Trump is corrupt and we are trying to stop him. Vote for us if you think he is guilty.

The blocking of an impeachment conviction is a way of elected Republicans saying we will do anything to protect Trump. Vote for us if you agree with what we are doing.

This may go on all the way up to the election next year.

And we still don't know what Trump will do if he loses.

I wish I shared your optimism. Do you really see ~20 republican senators throw away their careers by voting to convict?

If they convict after the primaries and before the general, they will be fine.

No one that will be mad at them for voting to acquit will turn on them by voting for their Democrat opponent.

1) I am extremely reasonable. As examples, I have mentioned several times that I thought Bill Clinton should have been removed from office. I am no party hack. I entered this whole Ukraine thing very cautiously and even said initially it was no big deal (turned out I was wrong about that). I have said that Schiff made a mistake in calling his summation of the readout as "parody". I am willing and able to point the finger at Democrats when it is deserved.

2) We have seen unbridled corruption from Trump that started to come into view shortly after he was elected. I mean, there was stuff before he was elected (Trump University fraud, several bankruptcies involving suspicious behavior on his part, denying black people rentals, etc.), but stuff that affected the country started to come out shortly after his election. The obstruction is unparalleled. The criminal behavior is unparalleled. Now, we have him publicly asking foreign governments (one of which is a dictatorship with no real justice system and who is our enemy!) to interfere with our elections.

So, what are the possibilities for people who still support him (other than elected officials):

1) JUST stupid. He lies constantly. He recently tried to get out of his current hot water by suggesting he might work with Democrats on gun control and immigration (so you can't EVER be sure he will stick to what he says there). He has made the NRA sweat more than any president in my lifetime. He is nothing that he presents himself to be. He's not a successful businessman, and there are many points that support that. He's not a Christian (I couldn't care less about that, but a lot of you Trumpers seem to). He's not smart. He doesn't have the "best words". He wasn't near the top of his class at Wharton (while he has threatened to sue them or any school he has attended if they release his grades, Penn publishes its list of all the "laudes", and he wasn't on it. Anyone who looks the other way on all of his criminality, his cruelty (shoot border crossers in the legs?), his assh0leness, just because they think he will support the NRA or for lower taxes or any other reason is just flat stupid...and perhaps soulless.

2) Racist. Now, ALL racist people are stupid, but for some Trumpers, it is the racism that drives them. Trump is a racist, that much is clear. He wants to keep brown people out, unless they work for him for less than minimum wage.

There are no other possibilities. Racist or JUST stupid. You can't tell me that it is right for him to seek dirt on his political rivals from foreign countries. I already asked you that, and you didn't answer. You know that's not right, and that behavior TRUMPS anything that you would support him for.

Biden is done. It's inarguable that his son was on the Ukraine petro company board to buy influence to the Obama admin, and Biden later extorted the Ukraine to stifle an investigation of said company. This isn't even a dispute.

Trump's poll numbers are actually on the higher side of his presidency (last week the poll of polls hit 45%. There is clearly no quid pro quo. He probably won't be impeached, and the Senate certainly will not remove him.

Trump is completely out of control.

He is now predicating a trade deal with China with them phonying up charges on the Bidens. Or at the very least 'investigating' them.

Rs you can't want that to happen. You can't. it's completely subverting the needs of the nation to the needs of DJT.

1 ) I am calling for it to be so bad that the Senators will have no choice. I think it's there now, but it will get worse.

2) I disagree that the Senators will be throwing away their careers. They will have no choice. Some of them will save their careers by voting to convict. At the end of all this, a Republican who showed a spine in the face of a dictator wannabe will have a lot of job options, especially if the Republican Party wants to rebuild its reputation. American sentiment is changing rapidly.

Trump's reaction to the whistleblower has made no sense since the issue first was raised....at least if you're inclined to think Trump didn't do anything he thought wrong or is significantly wrong.

Then he publicly asks another nation to investigate a political enemy.

The fact that the WH attempted to block the whistleblower in the first place and has gone out of their way to stand in the way of any investigation elsewhere indicates a conciousness of guilt on their part for sure.

The fact that the ever changing strategy of the WH now seems to be to "normalize" the actions of potentially bribing a nation to launch investigations vs. political enemies with the possibility hanging out there that said nations could essentially provide false information to appease the bribe should be concerning to any thinking American but it's par for the course with this administration and those who support the administration.

1) Biden may very well be done. I haven't said anything about that, so not sure why you brought that up. Biden was slipping in the polls to Warren anyway.

2) The Bidens have done nothing illegal. Did Hunter Biden deserve that job? It appears not. Children of famous and powerful people get jobs they don't deserve all the time...again, see Ivanka and her idiot husband Jared. Appearance of impropriety yes, but not illegal.

3) You are stoned if you think the House won't impeach him. That ship has sailed. I am saying he will be forced to resign or will be removed by the Senate, but I am not guaranteeing that part of it as there is a chance those Senators will remain disloyal to America and the Constitution all the way through, but I am eternally optimistic that when push comes to shove, people by and large, will make the just decision.

Yep. Totally insane. As if we could EVER believe ANYTHING that comes out of China. It's a dictatorship ruled by a dictator. It is beyond the pale for a President of the United States to ask China for an investigation into his political rival.

Trump has called for Schiff to be charged with treason. Treason? The penalty for that is DEATH. Schiff gives his take on the Ukraine call readout, and for that Trump suggests he could be put to death? Same for the whistle blower. Is this what the United States wants to be? This is NOT partisan politics. This man is cruel. He is dangerous. He is a liar. He is a criminal. He is not fit to be our President.

Opinion of an enlightened Republican:

If some more elements of the Republican base start to move from Trump and if Trump's offenses are clearly and repeatedly communicated there is an outside chance of this. My man Romney has been speaking out again just recently. He caries much moral authority with Republicans.

Regardless of whether Trump goes out before or at election time my party will need to purge itself to gain the moral high ground again. We as a party can do so much better than Trump. Romney might just be our way.

If the party doesn't do something fast, imagine Warren as president with a Democrat house and Senate!?

Looking back at this article about McConnell saying he was going to fight impeachment:

It's a fundraiser.

He doesn't need money to decided to cast a vote of acquittal. He's just using the Trump base's ire to raise money for himself.

He could change his mind and vote to convict and not owe any money back.
