Seattle, I have found use for my older iPad (Gen 2). I leave it at my daughter’s and son-in-law’s place now that I am babysitting. That way I don’t have to login each visit to their wi fi.

I ran this by someone I know and they couldn't figure out its meaning.
So, my take is this: the stock market is celebrating and appreciating while turning its back on a concerning/troubling backdrop of military and authoratarian developments.
"But to keep that going you have to constantly increase your pace of capex so that it keep rising faster than the pace of depreciation. Fun game! Bit vulnerable to, err, when the music stops though."
Hirst does a good job explaining the James Chanos tweet about Meta and depreciation posted by GoI last week. Can also explain this from GoI today.
"Market lessons: When the option set for the tech sector is either “shall we return this gigantic pile of cash we’re perched atop of to shareholders” or “shall we latch onto the nearest passing moonshoot narrative and set fire to said cash on our shareholders’ behalf” it’s never really a contest"
"There's much funnier option that the game of capex chicken continues even though it becomes increasingly clear that the moat is dissolving, in part b/c of ratchet dynamics discussed above & in part due to a falling but nonzero chance of winner-takes-all"
Beauty contest! *APPLE EXPLORES USING GOOGLE GEMINI AI TO POWER REVAMPED SIRI *GOOGLE HAS BEGUN TRAINING MODEL THAT COULD RUN ON APPLE SERVERS *APPLE ALSO CONSIDERING USING ANTHROPIC, OPENAI FOR THE NEW SIRI *APPLE HASN’T RUL...
"The tech press and AI true believers keep dogging Apple for subpar AI efforts, but I read things like this and see a smart company that is trying to avoid overcommitting its own capital to the arms race for a massively unprofitable technology that will only questionably improve its products."
Packing up and back to NJ, will be back in the Loon Star State in 2 weeks.
Do you think AI is a bubble that is going to crash the stock market? I read that even the S&P has something like 30% weighting towards a small number of AI stocks (Nvidia etc.)
I invested a lot this year in AI stocks. Nvidia's earnings report is on Wednesday. If it is below expectations, I fear it could trigger the start of a crash.

Someone better do a wellness check on Sally Vix, NVDA down 4 days in a row and the Longhorns lost.
Heading back to Texas tomorrow. Will find out soon whether I'm still banned there.
LOL. NVDA has had a nice long run and just a few down days. Arch? No idea what to think. Up against maybe best team in first start. You have to wonder why he was unable to beat out Ewers in 2 years.

Test
NVDA is down over 8% since it's August 27th close! ( Earnings were released after the close ) The S&P500 is flat and The NASDAQ 100 is up .45%! If The Longhorns don't beat San Jose St by more than 5 TDs we'll have to put Sally Vix on suicide watch.
After our closing 6 years ago, our real estate agent asked me, Longhorns or Aggies and showed me jerseys for each. I said Longhorns but keep the jersey because I would never wear it. I'm Irish Catholic on my father's side and we don't wear orange, even if it's burnt.
You could wear scarlet, shave your head, and tell everyone you are in the A&M Corp 12th Man Brigade.
Forty plus years ago you did not mow your lawn on a Sunday in Brenham. Tobacco culture was still a thing in East Texas. Prejudice was real back then, but changing rapidly. When I interviewed for the track coach position at Blinn College the President of the school ask me straight up if I was a church goer, and whether I would recruit a lot of black athletes. The Dean of Students, who liked me, filled in for my shocked paused responses.

My son and I would go The College Kickoff Classic at Giant Stadium back in the 90s. One year it was Florida St vs The Aggies. The A&M Band, with their doughboy uniforms, performed at half -time and got a standing ovation. Believe me, NY Metro fans are a tough crowd.
Some of the native Texans I know tell me Williamson County was dry until the 70s. Bergen County NJ, where I grew up and spent some time recently, still has Blue Laws that keep the malls closed on Sundays.
Many years back I was standing on line at the local grocery store St Patrick's day, early afternoon. This guy comes up behind me wearing a U of Tennessee bright orange hat. I asked if he planned to go to any Irish pubs later and when he said yes, I told him not to wear the hat. After telling him why it wasn't a good idea, he said, "Well that explains what happened to my friend". It seems his friend was at Hunter Mountain, a ski resort 3 hrs NW of NYC the previous weekend. They were celebrating St Patrick's day. The bartender told him he wouldn't serve him unless he took off his hat.

Nice recollections! Love hearing them. My mom and dad always had a big St. Patts day party.
I coached at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs in the late 70s. At that time the bordering Texas counties were dry. Lea County NM was not dry, but had restricted liquor sales in package stores. People would drive up to a service window, in and out quickly as to not tarnish your reputation. If you were a drinker, a common practice was to hide your empties in a empty laundry detergent box or some other vessel.

Uh-oh, Texas didn't cover the spread. Better hope NVDA rallies tomorrow. Interestingly, AMD is down 9.57%, but AVGO, after a earnings pop Friday is up 11.54% since 8/27! With Musk's big pay package and Robinhood replacing Caesars in S&P 500 we have the makings of a Jeopardy category, Things You See at a Market Top. Need 3 more. I'm sure GoI can come up with some good candidates.
When I was back in NJ recently, my younger sister and I sorted through boxes left by our late parents. I found a copy of their 1958 tax return! My father made $6400+ as an asst mgr at a grocery store and $300+ working at a friends deli*. He wound up using standard deductions which were $600 and $3600 all together, more than 50% of his income. He did work out other deductions on the back. Property taxes were $360, he also had $20 on cigarette taxes. My mother still smoked back then, but had stopped by 1960.
*The deli sold beer and my younger brother and I use to vote for Miss Rheingold Beer.

They don't ring a bell at the top of the market but here's a corrugated packaging company whose shares are up 5,000% on a plan to buy Sam Altman-backed eyeball-scanning crypto tokens and appoint Dan Ives as its chair - on.ft....
I saw three more things you see at market tops three years ago, so not sure that helps much.
My father on a bet with his buddies also quit smoking in 1960. He was pretty much a chain smoker on Pall Malls. Still got lung cancer, but made it to 82.
