Jesuit (CA) just won the Nike Portland Championships race.

Davis has a really good freshman, which makes a more interesting team this year (already had 4 guys under 10 for 3200m). Still hard to get a read on where they are on a state level until Clovis probably.

I have seen Strava posts that would counter that. No way it was 3.55 in their race. What a garbage meet with no real team competition. A long way to go for that.

Jesuit ran in Championship, not Division 1.

Clovis North got 6th and Millikan was 7th at portland or. It was a good thing cheyenne mountain from colorado also flew over. Jesuit ca got a win against them. Despite being weaker than most of the southwest teams, they are still a good southwest team. So a win over Cheyenne Mountain is good. But it is questionable whether Cheyenne Mountain will even be able to place top 10 at nxr southwest.

Jesuit is with one to meet by 55 points!

Jesuit didn't beat anyone significant, but at least they had a strong 5 and beat everyone they should. It is really the first strong performance by one of the top Cal teams this year, and it is good to finally see one. Millikan had basically their pre-season projected squad, but they lost to some teams I was hoping they would beat. Hopefully they can keep improving. Great Oak at Firman ran OK, but without Westin Brown their lack of depth makes them a team outside the national top 30. The 2 NXN spots are so wide open right now that even Brown in pretty good form still puts them in the mix. JSerra in 13th looks bad, but if Morales could be up near Friedl (they both were speedrated at 172 last year, and both had good track seasons) they would be so much better. If that had happened today they would be about 70 points better, which is a lower score than Great Oak. Maybe whatever injury he had at the end of track season is still an issue.

Bellarmine looked good and very deep today without their #1. Another team I would like to see how they stack up at Clovis.

It looks like there are several good 9th graders this year, better than the last couple of years. But being good at 2 miles, or flat 3 miles, is still different than holding up at Woodward Park, so that's another thing Clovis should tell us.

It's time for 2 state meets. Private cheating schools. Public schools.

Alternatively double the enrollment numbers for private schools so there's equity. Jserra should compete in DI if they can create a super team, recruit, and pull from anywhere.

Who said JSerra recruited this kid? Families move. He didn’t have a sit out period, so sounds pretty clean to me.

Jesuit goes 173.8 average speed rating. I believe that makes them the fastest Speed Rated California team just ahead of Menlo. Going to be good to see all of the California teams go head to head at Clovis.

The one that stands out most to me from an improvement perspective was millie Bayles going from 17:42 to 16:18 in one year.

Give us the courtesy of defining high school "recruitment". Because if parents and kids are searching for better resources and education and they are knocking of the doors of certain programs, then it's hardly "recruitment". Private schools are a business and at the cost of $20K+ a year, I would hardly think that a non-revenue generating sport like XC/Track is going to allow for much "recruitment" that you are insisting on. Get your facts straight before making such accusations.

I am a private school coach. I don't want to pretend that it's a fair fight. It's much easier to get kids at a private school then at public. I don't recruit but the quality of athletes that arrive and that are readily available are much better than at most public schools.
