great numbers to finish a truly great season. but it makes me wonder what the heck was going on in and around 1999 which was, dare I say, before Caitlin Clark was born. 3.25 million? why werent these discussions happening then?

Back then, the play-offs ended before the start of NFL. They had to compete with only MLB regular season and light college football schedule. Because the league added more teams and the season has been extended, now the play-offs take place in a more crowded calendar.
I think the finals could get more viewers if they took place a week after the World Series. But that would conflict with the start of NBA season. And many teams share their arenas with NBA teams, so it will create a scheduling nightmare. (By nature, you cannot plan play-off games in advance. You don't know which teams will need their arena.)

Besides the difficulty of sharing arenas with the men I wonder if the schedule (mid April through September) was set up to allow the WNBA players to play in Europe (mid September through early April).
whats the story with this Unrivaled League? they are really pushing hard to sign Clark who seems reticent. now saying they want to make her a "Messi-like" offer whatever that means. shes already turned down an offer of more than a million with equity and revenue sharing incentives. so they just signed her buddy Kate Martin as incentive. will she bite? she sure doesnt need the money.

re: Unrivaled trying to sign CC... she's probably aware that, as Fyre Fest showed us, promises aren't binding even if the contracts technically are. The backing could disappear and the league could quickly go under. Never mind if the facilities and the media coverage isn't what they claim it's going to be.
The whole thing probably looks like a flash in the pan waste of her time until it shows over a season or two that it's not. And even then, if CC's getting enough money just from playing a WNBA schedule and sponsorships, then she doesn't need the money anyway.

I guess Americans now know what Canadians have known for a while. and if shes legit what does that mean for her Maple Leaf buddy Fournier? theyve had the poor kid on a dunk count down since she announced for Duke. exciting times north of the border for womens basketball these days...

So much more quality and parity than even 5 years ago.
