Understanding how a CEO thinks can help anticipate what he is going to do. You don't have to like it, but if you can anticipate his actions, you can sometimes profit from it in the stock market.
In this case, the UK tariff action was out of The Art of the Deal. Chapter 12 describes how NYC closed the Wollman Rink in 1980 and announced plans to rebuild it in two years. Six year later, nothing had been done. Trump made Mayor Koch an outrageous offer to build the rink in only six months and at less cost. Koch ridiculed the offer. Trump went public. Press coverage and public outcry led Koch to agree to terms. Trump built the rink--that had been delayed six years--in six months.
Chapter 1 gives another example of brinkmanship that Trump used to buy Mar-a-Lago.
Regardless, I really prefer to discuss investing opportunities in this thread. Lots of other threads exist to discuss politics.
Do you have any suggestions about Nike, other apparel stocks, or how we might trade with the uncertainty surrounding tariffs?
It seems to me that the rest of SE Asia stands to benefit from Trump's hardball stance against China. Vietnam is poised to benefit a lot because it will be easier for companies with existing manufacturing in Vietnam to expand their operations in Vietnam than to build new facilities in another SE Asian nation... and Vietnam will be having bilateral trade talks with the US in early June. Nike has the majority of its manufacturing in Vietnam already, but it has lagged behind ONON, DECK, LULU, etc. I am buying Nike now in anticipation of a short term pop in June.
