Im having trouble squaring that with Igy’s views. Have I misled myself believing that Igy voted for Trump 45 and 47? If I got that wrong, i probably owe somebody an apology for my wrong-headed thoughts.
Believing that politicians in this country largely serve themselves, are corrupt at the core, seek power over service, should be a universal belief.
absolutely not. I do not believe that for an instant. Reading US and European history shows over and over again politicians who fought the good fight for country and fellow citizens. They did great things for the nation, not for themselves.
You can't be a good citizen of a democratic republic with your attitude. You would quickly fall for tyranny if you have no faith in democracy.
That's my last on this. We are veering away from economics.

In Boise the politicians currently in control have voted that flying the LGBTQ flag at City Hall is appropriate for all its citizens, though a majority would likely be against it. You are an evangelist for causes you champion, which may not agree with a good portion of even your liberal city’s constituents. For you it is all about righting some supposed wrong, when most people want safe cities, meaningful job, and to be treated fairly.

1) I'm not terrified at all. Harris is going to win.
2) Nah, you won't be back here to rub anything in my face. Trump will lose.
Harris wins. It's over.
Oh wow I didn’t even see this. So funny. Hope you’re doing okay babe, just here to rub it in your face as I said I would 1.5 months ago and yesterday :)
So much for the 13 keys :)
I was right and you were wrong :)
Hey Flagpole, remember when you wrote this???? HA!
My advice is to ignore most of what Trump says and ignore what the WH says. I think the whole "use tariffs to pay for tax cuts" is just something to appeal to curry favor among voters.
Instead of trying to make sense of the political doublespeak (from both parties), look at the actions taken and then try to deduce the end game... or games.
My thoughts are similar to yours, but I think Trump will play the tariffs game to get concessions from other countries. Ex: Make it easier and less expensive for US businesses to relocate from China to YOUR country and we'll reduce YOUR country's tariffs more than your neighbor's. You'll get a nearly guaranteed increase in your exports.
With this in mind, I think stocks best suited for this volatile market are stocks with manufacturing in China that 1) have been hit hard by tariff talk and 2) are in a good position to relocate their manufacturing to another SE Asia nation and 3) stocks in a position to benefit from a gain in market share while the tariff thing works itself out.
That said, I like NKE. It's been hit hard due to some mismanagement issues and tariffs, but it already has manufacturing in Vietnam so it should be easier for it to move out of China than for some other companies. It has also held above its 2016 low at 50-ish and that is now a support. I also like ONON. It has less exposure to China and is positioned well to take any market share from competitors as this tariff thing shakes out. If it sounds like I'm playing both ends of this tariff kerfuffle, I am!
All the sports apparel companies with manufacturing in China/Vietnam are up big today on news of the UK tariff deal.
Most are still WAY below their 2025 highs. I've invested in ONON, NKE, DECK, and LULU back in April and still see a very significant upside.
It will be interesting to see whether we see a deal with Vietnam first or with China first. I'm expecting a deal with Vietnam by the end of May. I think a great deal with Vietnam would put a lot of pressure on China to keep US companies from moving to Vietnam. OTOH, I have no idea what China might be able to use to pressure Vietnam to support China.
note that these numbers are inflation adjusted, not raw returns.
Which years did the US market have 16 years of negative returns?
Sally, pay attention please. Inflation adjusted. Or, in other words, years when total returns were less than inflation. You should be able to find the 16 year period if you take the time to look carefully.

Believing that politicians in this country largely serve themselves, are corrupt at the core, seek power over service, should be a universal belief. I have long said we get the lack of leadership we deserve. American society is sick physically and morally.
Igy, I can’t quite follow you past the waddabout there…
Did you vote for Trump, or not? I want to know whether to apologize for admitted thought crimes.

I am sure the 16 years is from 2000 to 2016 that Igy always references. Or maybe the Great Depression. But again, they always ignore the dividends. Which 16 year time period did they have a negative return?

The market has returned on average about 11% annually. When did it have 16 years of negative returns?

I don’t think I can help you any more than I’ve already tried Sally

A thought crime would be the belief that Biden or Harris offered something substantially better. For that, you would need to apologize.
Anyone want to guess how many years later was the inflation adjusted price (NOT TOTAL RETURN) of the S&P 500 lower than a previous high? A) more than 10 B) more than 20 C) more than 30 D) more than 40 E) more than 50

Why would you never include total return?
Bluto: What? Over? Did you say 'over'? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!...
