I'm trying to imagine a European investment committee now...trying to imagine someone saying they should put new money into US equities. I mean come on. Try to picture that. What would he say exactly? "Trump won't shoot us again!"
Not going to happen anytime soon no matter how many 180s trump does. Trust was broken and won't be back soon.
I think Trump is going to use the tarrifs in order to bargain deals with each country, and I think he wants to start with a strong hand, that serves his interest in negotiating. I think it's also in his interest to back the hell off of a steep tarrif stance, so we will see action sooner rather than later.
But there will still be a fair amount of residual tarrifs, and there will be a new way of doing business internationally, which will both create a lot of animosity and will discourage investment in our markets.
I think the big things that will move markets in the coming weeks and months will be economic indicators that point to a much softer economy, rising inflation, and diminishing consumer confidence and spending.
Ah, a common mistake that we still see to this day in the year 2025.
"I think there's something here to what Trump is doing, some sort of motive or purpose."
No. He and everyone around him are actually just that fvcking retarded, and it's as simple as that.

Okay. You're probably right.
I thought his strategy, if you could call it that, were f'g retarded enough, but you're probably right.
Interestingly, I looked at charts of previous $SPX crashes and here's Lehman's bankruptcy in Sept 2008. The market didn't collapse until 2 weeks later! It was down 9.44% during Thursday 9/18 from Friday 9/12's close. It rallied to finish the week up .27%.

Have you ever seen a picture of Donald J Trump? Have you ever asked yourself this question Would you trust this man with your 401K now? Would you trust this man? ask yourself now
He's goin' down and he's goin' down fast You really didn't think the ignorance could last All the little children are learning And the constellation is turning
Mumbling by the tumbling tide The king of America humbly cried Save my soul, save it soon! The king of America fell in swoon Oh yea, my money, Oh yea my money...
When I was in Rome in 1977, they were selling postcards of Pope Paul VI in St Peter's Square. I bought some and mailed them to my Jewish friends with the words, "would you trust this man with your soul?". Recently I discovered I have a Ashkenazi Jewish ancestor about 7 generations ago on my Irish Catholic side!

I think it’s a big mistake to assume Trump and his band of cronies are all objectively stupid. We’ve all been underestimating him continuously from the beginning, and he keeps proving us wrong. He may not have a 140+ IQ like everyone in this thread 🙂, but he clearly has a particular kind of genius. Not a kind I find admirable or redeeming, but genius nonetheless. As to his band of merry men, the IQ points of five brilliant people seemed shared among 30, lumped mainly in one or two. There are some big fecking eejits among them, for sure. Their main talent is blind loyalty for the most part. And some small dose of evil genius for most of them.
I’m imaging some on this thread are feeling pretty worried about their retirement savings right now. I hope for all your sake things reverse course soon. But i expect they will get worse, maybe by a lot, before they get better. Buckle up, everyone!

Of course you conveniently ignore the previous guy’s dementia that was covered up from the very beginning of his Administration. Who really made decisions? Why was that?

How long do you believe that America can borrow, hire Government workers, produce little, to have its wealthy citizens sit on their ass in coffee shops, and travel the world? Must be nice to live off the stock market while future generations carry the burdens of often slovenly and degenerate behavior.
Many post on this thread post like decades of policies from both parties.are not responsible for the current state of affairs. As if the election of Trump is an aberration unconnected to past.

We can always count on Igy for a couple of good "whatabouts"
Typical well worn response.
Another view on tariffs.
.@VDHanson makes a compelling case for the @realDonaldTrump tariff strategy, but gets one issue incorrect. He describes the Trump tariffs as reciprocal and proportional to those other nations have assessed on us.

The top 10% owns 88 percent of the stock market. The next 40% owns 12 percent. The bottom 50% has debt, auto loans, credit card bills, they rent their homes. Does the bottom 50% care if the investor class can retire at 55?

It’s been challenging to stay on top of events. Some of the things I find most alarming so far include: declaration of emergencies (northern border crisis; Venezuelan “invasion”) as excuses for executive action without reference to congress; open assaults on the judiciary; widespread firings in military, law enforcement and other key agencies and replacement with loyalist toadies; alignment with Russia and open hostility toward allies.
America is evolving. I expect into something ugly. I think we’ve seen will see kinetic warfare emerge in places we don’t expect. Effects on markets will be chaotic. Some people (mainly the oligarch class, including Trump’s cabinet) will profit in this volatility. Most of the rest of us will not.
My last most likely forecast, a ways back, for the end of this year was for 4600 on SP500. Will we get there by then? Or more, sooner? Who the hell knows…
