I started at Dean Witter under their Star System. Perhaps you are familiar with it. Every six months for two years the bottom 25% of your broker training class was fired. Accumulating clients and assets was all cold call based from the Bull Pen. At Dean Witter it was primarily firm branded mutual funds, investment grade bonds, and Blue Chip stocks. The rookie of the day took call-ins on a rotation basis. Routinely you got Florida based penny stock pushers. After a while I developed my character Sherman Oaks for handling their calls. A comical voice and a dumb questioning response to their calls. They caught on, and when I would answer they would just hang up.

Why we are doomed no matter who is in charge:

I agree that rampant, unbridled consumerism is a huge part of the problem.

Storage units to hold the crap you don’t use, but too greedy to give away.

one of the scarier pieces of the economic plan from this admin is that it is anti-consumer...the tariffs will raise prices at the store, which will retard consumer power.

given our economy has for decades and decades relied on consumer spending to grow and has encouraged that...reversing that may be painful and will certainly cause many unintended consequences.

The so called stock market "crash" seems to have reversed to the upside.

Savings down, consumer spending dependent upon low wages (immigration), cheap credit, and a population hooked on some of the worst elements American society has to offer. That is why today’s younger generation will have poorer health, more dependency on the same, with a lower quality of life. Meanwhile those in the West that advanced the “promise” of Globalism will increase their wealth and power.

Consequence of stupidity: cost of housing. almost every cost of living. I could be dead before Social Security and Medicare goes bankrupt. Not true for many who post here; the investments better payoff.
