I have been buying Axon last year or so. Not even sure what kind of company it is. LOL. But up about 163% in the last year. Since 2002 it is up 140,000%. Missed out on that.
There are basically two camps now regarding US Government spending. One that benefits from the systemic multi trillion dollar deficit funded circular financing scheme and one that wants that slush fund to stop.
I’ve been dying to see A Complete Unknown while abroad, and will finally get a chance next week. I’m more excited than I can remember being in a long time! I’ve also got another 5k lined up, on a flat, certified course. Third one in a year after a 14-15 year break. My “training” consists of roughly 25 miles a week, mostly with my wife at ~ 10 minute mile pace, but including alternating workouts of 1000s or 500s. I’ve been training in old Nike Air Streak Lite flats with maybe 3000 miles on them, but just bought some sexy new shoes to try out, budget near-super shoes, Kiprun KD900 light. Feeling like I might be ready to knock another 3 seconds off my last couple which were 20:03 and 20:00… 🙂
Meanwhile, the geopolitical world is topsy-turvy. What does this mean for the markets? I wish I knew. I remember, though, when war in Ukraine began I looked back at other periods of major conflict and found market behaviour to be little different than during other periods, so if the shape of ongoing conflict changes (as I expect, probably dramatically), it will be other things, not conflict that move markets. I’m still staying buckled up for a bumpy ride ahead…

Eager to hear how you like A Complete Unknown.
As for the geopolotics and to what extent they may impact the markets, I get what you are saying, but I am starting to feel their is an order of magnitude difference this time, and things may actually filter into the markets in due time.
Edit: good luck with the 5k.
I am finding that the new super shoes have been really beneficial with recovery, if nothing else, and I gravitate towards using them most every run, just for that reason. There's no shortage of them out there discounted that I can scoop up just for training runs.

good luck with the race!
the politics-stock market connection is always tricky...you are right that there is usually no connection.
What seems to make it worse this time is that we have one guy making all the decisions, and his view is that we need to break a lot of stuff quickly. That's new and different. No congress to slow him down, no concern for keeping traditions, no economics training. No view that global economics can be a win-win. Just a dog eat dog world of kill or be killed. That's not great or an accurate description of global econ.
On the other hand, I am vehemently against trump and that is probably coloring my view unfortunately.
I continue to fade the market...I'm down to 50% in stocks and a full 20% of my portfolio in money market.

I am not confident on numerous fronts impacting the markets and have been moving in a defensive direction all week, albeit slowly. This is unfortunate and not what I would prefer, but that is out of my control.
Managed 19:41 today. Weather was really good and the course was as flat as I’ve ever seen. My last (20:00 last fall) was on a windy day on a course with a few hills, so weather and course were better. Not sure how much difference the shoes made; some, for sure. That puts me back a bit over 80% age-graded, getting closer to my younger masters scores. Will be 60 in a few months.
Maybe it’s just me, but the current state of the world has me totally off balance and worried. I’ve still got no idea what this means for markets apart from likely chaos, which may be good or bad. Happy to be on the sidelines though, with nothing in equities at the moment, keeping our retirement funds safe.
If any of y’all have any pull with the president, maybe ask him to smarten up a bit?

great job - over 80% is quick!
Yeah, like he (Agip) said. I think I only once ever broke into the 80% category.
DId a little race today myself.
These days it seems I'm pretty much mostly satisfied to just finish.

on the running side, I'm in good shape and looking to peak in April into early May...goal is to get back to the 83%ish races I've hit at previous peaks. My workouts suggest that is possible...but I'm still a couple percentage points away. But regardless, I've no injuries and am training well so it's all good.
Fast running from DGD masters. As for myself pretty slow, but picking up training once I met a 77 and 80 year old near my house. Sounds funny but these guys are pretty fit and regularly cover 7 miles three days a week. They do the Galloway Run-Walk using a Gym Boss timer: 1:15 run-0:15 walk; equates to about 84% running which I think is good for our ages.
I traveled to Kingsville, Texas this weekend for the HOF Induction of my 1984 cross country teams at Texas A&M-Kingsville at D2 school. I planned to run a 5k while here, but the race was cancelled with near freezing temperatures.

Awesome. That plants you squarely in the "national" caliber of runners, and I am assuming that is per your age group.
I once pointed out to my coach at the time that when I hit an 80._ %, it was national class, and he pointed out, however, that one would normally take the midpoint of that category - 85% - before considering oneself technically national class.
You're right on that already, so good luck with this cycle and race! That's some pretty distinguished running in my book.
Curious on the distance, and somehow i'm assuming 5k (?)

Keep up the good work. It's not easy fighting the injuries, aches and pains, loss of motivation, etc. There's just seems to be fewer of us each year - I've seen so many hang up the running shoes.
I'm fortunate that in my group, the specific group I run with has a number of very good 70+ runners, some who compete nationally and a few more regionally.
You know, just being able to do it is no small feat after a while, by any consideration. I try not to forget that.

When I was hitting 83-84% in my early 40s, I considered myself “regional class.” Sure, I could compete in national masters events, but as an also-ran, not a contender. I think my best national championship showing may have been 7th in a year where hardly anybody showed up. I did hit 87% once, a weird anomaly, and that particular mark (indoor 1500) did hang out pretty well in rankings that year. Any of my ~83-84% results would have been well down in national rankings. So I think your coach’s guideline of 85% seems about right.
