One channel that I think is pretty decent is FlobergRuns. He's trying to break 2:40 at Chicago this weekend. He has a wife/kids/job and doesn't take himself too seriously. Obviously not a great runner, but he doesn't train like a dips*** and shows improvement. He does videography professionally, so his videos always look pretty good. I've enjoyed following him and he doesn't piss me off like a lot of these other YT weirdos.

You all used to love Eric but then followed like sheep when he became less cool cause there were new kids on the block like JakeRantoJapan (who is also awesome btw). In 2 years people will probably be slagging him off here too.
Oh and as for Ben - he just ran a sub 30, 10k at Vitality London. On an obscenely muggy and hot day. Clearly in sub 2:20 shape. If he doesn’t PB then it won’t be for lack of talent or poor training/race execution. It will be because the weather forecast for Chicago is currently saying it’s full sun and roasting. Fingers crossed for them both .
Floberg was a decent channel. When he followed Pfitz and didn't take himself seriously. Then he joined BPN, got involved with Matt Fox, hired a cameraman to follow him around and seemed to think he was some sort of running guru. He also missed his kids playoff baseball game to "rest" age of a marathon (in reality he ran a BPN shakeout) - he also started to rob innocent running newbies of money by offering coaching to people despite having no clue about running nor qualifications. Do you need me to go on? He WAS a decent YouTuber but disappeared up his own ass a long time ago.

I’ve been at Battersea parkrun before (once when he won and once when he finished 2nd but nearly beat a genuine elite runner who was running there that day) and can say he’s the nicest bloke. Happy to say hi to his fans, give out tips for free etc.. Don’t comment until you’ve actually met him as such a top bloke

I don't care for the anti-flo rhetoric generally--these guys are making videos and some people like them, so all good. BUT the YouTube comments and the strava comments are crazy to me too. Like I just can't believe the YT ones are real. To me, they reek of paid comments. But I could just be so out of the loop and culture of social media. Maybe there really are lots of people who comment and "create content" and share in the whole content creation enterprise. Totally foreign to me.

Not my ideal conditions, but how often do you get ideal conditions? I won't be taking anyone seriously if they blame a subpar performance on the weather.

Yeah, I think it’s a culture that now emphasizes social clout. I mean, you have TikTokers and influencers on Instagram. I have millions of followers that you and I have never even heard of.
They are selling out of concert venues, theaters just to do bits for their fans. Think about this, in the old days is getting 10 million viewers of a TV show was bad, now it would be a hit. Everybody else found something else to watch instead of the common things.

Agreed. I think Nicky and Ben showed that good training can overcome any conditions with their sub 30 runs on a ridiculously hot and humid day at the Vitality 10km recently.

It was a little shy of the goal I originally set myself, but I figured out pretty early on in the race that it wasn't gonna happen - and I'm satisfied that I got everything out of myself on the day.
