Fully hear you on this one, couldn’t agree more! Honestly… my goal going into this block was to have a marathon race where I fuelled right. I have a very chequered history with the marathon and quite honestly, I’m happy to spend money on a fast 5K / 10K and even a half now in Europe but I’m not prepared to spend loads travelling if I’m going to under fuel again, it’ll be a complete waste of time.
I spoke to James (sirpoc) about this and coming from a cycling background, his basic answer was “I don’t understand why so many runners under fuel”…. For context I think he had 7/8 betafuel gels at London (280g/320g)… at this stage I’d already ditched maurten and gone with precision and I doubled down on it this summer after having that chat with him. So if I walk away from Abingdon having sank 90g carbs per hour (3 gels) and had a reasonable performance, I’ll invest in something much better in the future 👍
Might do London again next year if this goes well or I’ll wait until the end of the year and look at something in Europe
