Who knows. Maybe he's been pissing her off for months and this morning she just had enough. Maybe the others have their time coming as well (like the blabbermouth who also has a blabbermouth friend posting about this whole situation on letsrun). I doesn't really matter. At the end of the day, she's the head coach and the decisions of who to fire and when are her's and her's alone.

"head coach is turning the program into and I quote "a place where performance doesn't matter as long as everyone has fun"

Total BS..... That is not how she operates. Stop trying to throw her under the bus and let her do her job, if she wants a new throws coach she has every right as the DIRECTOR of the program to get one. Trust me performance matters a lot to the head coach... now the administration that might be another question but don't drag her into the mud on a personal vendetta or with false information.

I don't think there has been an official announcement, but you can mark my words that Pete Dolan has been let go at UCSB. Wow!!

However we have received an email from Mr Dolan's lawyer, Daniel J. Kolodziej of Trygstad Schwab & Trygstad, saying in part:

"I am counsel for Pete Dolan, head coach for UCSB’s Track & Field/Cross Country program. Thus, I have personal knowledge of the fact that Mr. Dolan remains an employee and the head coach for UCSB. I cannot speak to any other matters regarding Mr. Dolan at this time, but I would appreciate your assistance to remove the posts at the new thread that has started today "Pete Dolan let go at UCSB (who was coaching there for 25+ years)! Drama, drama out in southern California ." It is causing inaccurate and defamatory information about Mr. Dolan to be circulated through your prominent and otherwise quite respectable publication/site. We appreciate your support of running and athletics in general, and hope you can ensure that the integrity of Mr. Dolan and any ongoing matters that concern him are properly discussed, without false conjecture and speculation, within your public forum."

Since the email is disputing a fact from an anonymous poster and the lawyer is an insider who should know whether Mr. Dolan remains the coach at UCSB we are removing the thread. We have long said if you can factually prove something isn't the case we will remove it. So we are doing that in this case and making this thread so only registered users can post.

Athletes at UCSB have told me that they haven’t seen Dolan in months. And why has he hired a lawyer? Clearly he’s watching LetsRun like a hawk. This guy is finished. Next topic.

Yeah she's doing a bang up job with having only two athletes qualify for indoor MACs individually.

Track and field is a concrete sport. You either have marks and are scoring points at conference meets, making regionals/nationals or you don't.

From my laymans perspective their throws program scored points at MACs and they have kids poised to make regionals this outdoor year ... I'd say it was a solid crew.

Great coach or not, it's the head coaches prerogative on whomever works on her staff. Was it the best timing? Probably not but we letsrunners also don't know what happened at CMU. Let's be decent people and remember this person prolly has a family, also probably doesn't want his business all over the internet and stop gossiping.

In importance to this thread, apparently there is a job open at Central.

I’d be hesitant to pursue a job opportunity under a coach who couldn’t keep a cool head and wait until the end of the season to begin reassessing employment.

Barring any major violations a Director should remain professional and keep the athletes best interest at heart.

Maybe booting him before conference was in the best interest of the athletes.

How? Like I said if there aren't any major violations then how would it benefit the athletes to lose their coach before their season ends?

Maybe he created a bad environment for the athletes. Maybe he was emotionally abusive. Maybe he acted like a middle schooler and fraternized with the athletes. Maybe he talked crap about them to each other and caused drama. All of this is stuff that has been done by coaches before and would create a situation where getting rid of the coach is best for the athletes, regardless of when in the season.

Once again if there is no significant violation it is usually in the best interest to wait until after all major competitions.

The things you named are things that should've been dealt with in advance. Trust me I get how things like that ruin chemistry and umdermine the heads authority. That's just the politics of DI. There are plenty of coaches that are on the chopping block right now; hence why we even have this thread.

Because she didn't do what is customary the peanut gallery will label her as "emotional". They always do that to our female head coaches when they don't do things the usual way.

For the record this is not my belief. I just have seen this numerous times in the DI ranks

There are a lot of in unfounded accuastion there for someone hiding behind an anonymous username.
