Carrington made such an obvious eye gouge (watch the video) and the league and the media did nothing and most were afraid to call her out on it for fear of being called racist.
Then Carrington played the race card and the league jumped to her defense. I have never seen a player targeted like that with permission.
I watched it live. it wasnt an attempt to "gouge her eye out" in the least. just a follow through and her fingers caught her eye. the refs didnt even see the contact. they assumed Clark was being dramatic like she sometimes is. even Clark said it was a basketball play after the game. and anyway Clark hip checked her into the 2nd row on a later play for a little pay back. neither was called. thats baskteball. stop trying to make it a racial issue just to stir sht up. she got fouled hard by white girls in college on many occasions. why werent you crying then? and black women foul other black women in the WNBA hard all the time. its a physical game. did you not see the Griner vs. Jackson altercation earlier in the week? you only watch Clark games, its no wonder why you only call out fouls on Clark...
If you saw it live there absolutely no way you could if your teams Carrington did it on purpose. Of course Clark did the political thing and said it was a basketball play. Could you imagine the uproar if she said it was on purpose. (Every time she has been intentionally fouled she never blamed the player)
Carrington bent her fingers in very unbasketball move. She is sick

garbage. I did see it live and it was a bang bang play that never came across as purposefully malicious. you couldnt even see any contact in real time and remember this happened on a PASS not a shot so Carrington went up thinking she was about to shoot and then tried to adjust to alter the pass, catching her eye. it was a basketball play period. full stop. and I am somebody who has been championing Clarks brilliance since she was a freshman at Iowa while people like you were saying no one cares about womens basketball and they werent worth watching. read back in this thread if you dont believe me. trying to hype this particular incident up to be about the angry resentful WNBA veterans versus the gwh newcomer Clark is the act of a non fan with an agenda. where were you when she was getting knocked around early in her college career? defenders have known how dangerous she is for a long time and have been going out of their way to try to stop her including being overly physical with her since she was a freshman in Iowa City. stop thinking you are bringing anything new to the table.
also why no complaint about her basically doing the same to Carrington later in that same game such that she knocked Carrington's contact lenses out? was that play ok but this one you are still fixated on a week later wasnt? they were both basketball plays and NEITHER was called a foul during the game. Im good with that. move on like Caitlin has.
The full Liberty-Aces series averaged 967,000 viewers, up a third from the teams’ meeting in last year’s WNBA Finals (728K). All four games of the series averaged more viewers than any of last year’s four Finals games.
The five-game Lynx-Sun series averaged 752,000 viewers, marking the most-watched playoff series to ever involve either team, including the Finals.
amazing comeback and thrilling overtime finish. what happened to "the games are boring now that Clark is gone..."? is New York cursed never to win a title?
Josh Pehlke remembers having to beg and plead at bars and restaurants to get them to show WNBA games just a few years ago. As the general manager at Signature Bar & Restaurant in Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood, about a 3-p...
The WNBA’s season-long viewership momentum has extended to its showcase series. Game 2 of the WNBA Finals between the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx — which tipped off at 3 p.m. ET Sunday against NFL programming — averag...
The end of Game 4 reminded me of the Iowa-Indiana game from last year. In that game, Holmes made two FTS with a few seconds to go, and then Clark hit the three at the buzzer.
The difference is that Lynx did a much better job at preventing Sabrina from getting a good look in the last possession. In hindsight, I wonder if that was the right play for Liberty. In that IU-Iowa game, Clark said that the first option was to go to the post, and she took the shot only because she saw an opening. Maybe NYL should have gone to either Stewie or JJ inside?
It was a tense, riveting, and hard-fought game with lots of tough physical defense, but I wouldn't say it was a great game considering the poor shooting from both teams. They combined to shoot just 5 from 42 from three, which is 11.9%. Honestly, it was an ugly game to watch.
Additionally, I was disappointed by the Minnesota coach's comments after the game when she blamed the referees for the loss, saying the title was "stolen" from Minnesota by the refs. Yes, the foul call that resulted in Stewart getting two free throws to tie the game late in the fourth quarter was a bad call, but Minnesota was able to call a timeout with 5 seconds left in the game after that, which is more than enough time to get a quality game-winning attempt. They got a shot and missed it. Then, in overtime, Minnesota missed all six of its field goal attempts and committed five turnovers. Instead of blaming the refs for their loss, they should be better sports and look at themselves for their atrocious play in overtime.

Well, if you like defense and old NBA style physical basketball, and I do, it was a great game. The WNBA has embraced old style Pistons basketball, ugly but exciting.
Even in this era, playoff games are hard fought with poor shooting as defenses shut you down. The Dallas/Boston series was plagued with poor shooting.

I actually like defense and physical basketball, too. I became a fan of basketball in the early 90s, so I'm very familiar with the Bad Boy Pistons and the tough defense played by teams like them, New York, Indiana, and Miami in that decade. But even with tough defense, there can be elite shot-making and playmaking, and last night's game had very little of either, particularly in the fourth quarter and overtime.
I checked the stats from the Dallas-Boston NBA Finals, and not one game in that series had shooting as bad as last night's game:
Game 1: Dallas had 41.7 FG% and 25.9 3P%; Boston had 47.6 FG% and 38.1 3P%
Game 2: Dallas had 47.5 FG% and 23.1 3P%; Boston had 45.2 FG% and 25.6 3P%
Game 3: Dallas had 44.2 FG% and 36.0 3P%; Boston had 46.3 FG% and 37.0 3P%
Game 4: Dallas had 50.5 FG% and 40.5 3P%; Boston had 36.3 FG% and 34.1 3P%
Game 5: Dallas had 44.9 FG% and 29.7 3P%; Boston had 42.7 FG% and 33.3 3P%
Last night: Minnesota had 37.1 FG% and 15.8 3P%; NY had 30.6 FG% and 8.7 3P%
I'm not a WNBA hater like others here. I go to at least one game a year, and I watch games on tv. I just think the other games in this year's WNBA Finals had a better balance of good defense and good offense.

This is a good take. watched the game as well and was surprised that the 2nd half wasn’t any better than the first half shooting-wise. Ionescu had a terrible, terrible offensive night, as did Courtney Williams for Minnesota. Entertaining certainly, but not great basketball from an offensive standpoint in the last game with the most eyeballs watching.

I know you're not a hater and yes other games had better balance. I'm just pointing out that the bad shooting was a result of tough, physical defense and that I'd rather see that than great shooting because of a lack of defense. The 3 at the start of overtime was one of the few open shots. I guess I think a game can be ugly but great.
