To be fair, it goes both ways. Look at the Juan Luis Barrios NYC marathon commentary thread. All the woke posts in that thread got removed. It’s very common that a mod will delete a post they simply disagree with. I see it done on both sides.

Yes, I agree, it is a serious problem. Well I do believe that the left on here is more prone to report threads or posts they disagree with, I agree it’s generally a problem that mods take it upon themselves to erase posts or threads that are nonviolent, but which they personally disagree.
A little bit of consistency would be great. There are threads here about runners and how they are perceived every day. However, some runners are protected from such threads as they are deleted right away. It's just weird.
Such conversations should either be allowed or not allowed. They shouldn't be allowed for some runners and not allowed for others.
Another Seth James DeMoor thread unceremoniously disappeared! What’s his hold over the Brojos and the mods? Why not just add his name, SJD, and DGR to the profanity list since any mention produces great offense?
Big city sucks because their dark skinned people commit crimes and the elected officials can’t keep up because they dope, wear carbon shoes, and are thinking about changing genders to fight in Gaza! Discus and get devastated on Valbymania. Touhy forever! Hunter Biden and Trump should open a hotel with Ukrainian bribe money and profits from vaccines before Kiptum breaks the marathon record again.

Was that topic OK?
I thought you all had your safespace on Reddit to gripe about him?
Let me rephrase it: why can't we discuss a popular running YouTuber, especially his training methods and style of filming? None of these are personal attacks or whatever woke BS the mods will claim
Well this thread is about a year old and 35 pages long. Never expected that. Given that so many people are dissatisfied with the moderation, and I want to do more than just complain, here are my suggestions.
1. Instruct the moderators to ONLY delete posts or threads that are violent, threatening, doxxing, pornographic, or openly racist. That means use of racist words, not alleged innuendo or whatever.
2. Do not allow moderators to delete posts critical of certain runners, unless the post meets the requirements in #1. The “system” we have now, which is essentially a moderator free for all, guarantees that some runners will be protected more than others. This is hypocritical, irritating, and stifles discussion. The ONLY exception is for runners still in high school. They are still kids and should not be asked to handle heavy criticism online. Everyone else is fair game. It’s the price of being great.
3. Do not allow moderators to delete a thread just because they think it is silly or stupid or trolling. That is not their judgment to make. They ONLY delete posts and threads that meet the criteria outlined in #1.
4. Do not allow moderators to delete posts or threads because they disagree with the political viewpoint being expressed. That is not their job, see #1. As it stands now, there are some moderators who are clearly conservative, and others that are clearly leftist. Their deletions reflect their political biases, and both sides of the political debate are justified in complaining that they are being targeted. It doesn’t help the site, and pisses everybody off.
5. Do not allow moderators to delete posts or threads that are critical of moderation. As it stands now, it’s impossible to discuss moderation anywhere outside of this thread. And frankly, the moderators delete as many posts as they can from this thread. Heck, one of them banned me for criticizing the moderators on this very thread. I had to go to Weldon to get the ban removed. Regardless of the intention, it makes it look as if the moderators are really in charge of the site and are aggressively suppressing any discussion of the job they do, which is irritating to regular members, and unhelpful to management.
6. Don’t allow moderators to unilaterally ban anyone. The decision to ban should rest with the brothers. Moderators make recommendations, but that is all. It is possible that this will actually save the brothers time, because I suspect practically every ban is challenged, meaning the brothers have to take time to make a ruling about it anyway.
7. Review every moderators work quarterly. Ensure that they are abiding by these rules. If not, get new moderators.
Moderation is a necessary evil. Every forum needs it. But it needs to be limited, carefully controlled, and used to enhance the site, not reduce it.
What are your thoughts? What would you add, change, or delete?

The stupid mods tried to impose a permanent ban on me for starting a harmless thread about slowing down skin aging. A few months back they tried to do that for a genuine thread about cholesterol tests. The process is idiotic.
I wrote about a special memory I had with my father who’s now deceased. We saw Roger Bannister’s first “sub 4” together. For some reason the mods here deleted my story twice.

I read that thread. I am sorry it keeps getting deleted. Makes no sense to me.

The site can’t really ban you thanks to the co-flounderer’s own desire for anonymity and general technical incompetence. Their most potent thermonuclear weapon is an IP ban, but they can’t ban most cellphones using LTE because the majority of them are NAT’ed addresses, so they face a decision similar to what censoring regimes like China do: do you ban a large number of permitted users/apps in order to ban one that you want banned?
They can ban your home’s public facing IP but you just need to know to get around that. It’s annoying but toothless if you know a little bit of tech or can read up. Their other lighter “bans” based on device fingerprints are laughable. Anything based on device information is easy to circumvent for the owner of the device.
Pretty sure Erik and probably the brojos know all this. There are ways to make the bans more accurate and hard for most people to circumvent (unless they have access to a nontrivial pool of rotating ephemeral IPs) but the brojos can’t both want plausible deniability on their own posts and also accurately pinpoint who someone else is on this site.

Banning is only a temporary solution anyway. The ideas and facts are still out there, except more determined after a ban. A ban is like an alcoholic getting drunk one more time to avoid the pain of sobriety - a liberal gets a temporary reprieve from reality, but it just makes the road to reality rougher.

Thank you very much for this explanation. I think what bothers me most of all is that quality threads and posts disappear without a trace, and there are no getting those back unless the brothers reinstate it (as they did this thread a year ago). But that takes a lot of effort, and your email may or may not be answered in a timely manner.
