I think JG had a chance at an inside pass for a moment before Gourley started drifting back to the rail. It looked like more space was opening up inside than outside when Gregorek went for the inside -- not sure if it's bad luck or bad tactics
That last decision might be slightly debatable, but leaving himself so much to do *up to* that point is the real sin. Had lots of chances to move up a couple of spots without expending too much energy before that, and just blew them off. It looked like he studied the video of his pal Robby's catastrophic Semi- race in Rio --and tried his best to emulate it. (With basically an identical result.)

He was happy, regardless of the depleted field. It's not like he's a nobody who couldn't have won anyway. Of course we'd like to see him against all the best, but I wouldn't expect him to be reserved about winning a World Championship.

Real question, why the .1 rule? If someone really needs the .1, let them “guess” and take the risk.
The issue with that is that when people know they can’t win, they’ll just guess every time.
that’s why a reset with no DQ makes sense for some false starts and a full DQ for others. There should be tiers to it so it’s harder to game. .08-.1 should be a reset with no DQ.
Why is it up to just one guy on the in field if you get back in after tripping the false start system? Most sports have a jury of officials to decide this
