Wow... this message and overall thread is one of the most disgusting things I've ever read. There is an argument to be had for anti-choicers, even though I personally disagree with it and think it should be up to women and their doctors to decide what to do. But there are some horrifyingly racist, sexist, misogynistic, evil a**holes on this website who clearly see women as nothing more than subordinates to serve their sexual needs and pump out children. The majority of people support a women's right to choose, so you all are the minority and everyone is disgusted by you for it. You are the downfall of humanity
Overturning roe v wade will end up being the death of the GOP. By actually making abortion a legit political issue, they can only lose support. Many pro-lifers are actually pro choice when it comes down to actually being legal- it’s just a morality thing for them. And there has to be an extremely large amount of non voters who will now vote to maintain the right. In swing state some GOPs will have to go pro choice to gain a majority, which will cause massive splintering in the party. The GOP made moral stance a fundamental part of their party, but now that it is no longer hypothetical I can’t see either that stance or the party lasting long. Roe v wade could be the end of our current two party political system.
I imagine for under30 90% would be pro choice- even if many still think that abortion is morally wrong. I mean it’s been legal for 50 years people are accustomed to this right. I can’t see how the GOP will be able to maintain any longevity unless there a massive conservative cultural shift.

joke post of the day. True rambling at its finest.
The Dems do have full control of the government. There is nothing preventing them from making an amendment to the constitution.
Not true. An amendment requires a proposal for an amendment by 2/3 vote of both houses of Congress or, if two-thirds of the States request one, by a convention called for that purpose. Then the amendment must be ratified by three-fourths of the State legislatures, or three-fourths of conventions called in each State for ratification. Not easy.
However, Congress cold instead merely pass a law making it legal, but they do not have the votes.
If the SC is potentially going to overturn one law blocking the federal “right” to abortion, what makes you think passing another law would work?

Wow you come across as a leftist baby here. Can’t you go cry racism in your campus dining hall?

If the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, will it then be considered "settled law" by Liberals and conservatives alike?

I don't think you've read all the posts. If this is how you feel, you're no better than the filth you despise.

Probably not. But with a 5-4 majority in the court and a very close to even Congress it would be a waste of everyone’s time and resources to try and pass a law that would get shot down.
Assuming the court does overturn roe v wade, the only way it gets put back in any form is if libs take the Supreme Court (which they have zero respect for)

My, aren't you an exaggerator. Which posts are so "horrifyingly racist, sexist, misogynistic, evil a**holes on this website who clearly see women as nothing more than subordinates to serve their sexual needs and pump out children."?
I've read the thread and see nothing close to that. I think you are trolling.
No one will ever be satisfied because each side is arguing about something different:
Pro-life argues about the morality of ending a life, and where that life begins.
Pro-choice argues about the morality of consequence-free sexual intercourse.
There are some legitimate reasons for getting an abortion that make sense to me, like a rape victim, drug addict, terminally ill person, etc. making a decision to 1) not bring a child into that world and 2) not have another child (of the 300,000+ kids) be put into orphanages.
But it's the same deal with overpopulation that we have with abortion. No one will talk about the difficult stuff, only popular bits like religion or "muh choices".
Are cities expanding at an unsustainable rate (see the current major drought in SoCal)? Is Africa's population explosion unsustainable (see AFRICA??) Are contraceptives enough, or must laws be eventually implemented even in our own Western countries to combat environmental issues like water scarcity and air quality by means of limiting reproduction to certain individuals (like a lottery system?) Should gene therapy, MRT, surrogate mothers, etc. be banned under law? Should the number of children per wedded household be limited? Should reproduction be contained to wedded persons? Should reproduction lotteries be tied to the number of orphans waiting for adoption (e.g. lower # orphans, higher # tickets for new kids)?
These are tough questions that need to be answered within the next few decades. No one likes it, but everyone deep down recognizes it.
Roe v Wade is small change compared to what's coming, unforunately.
I don't buy a Malthusian argument. No evidence we are remotely close to the carrying capacity of humans on Earth, especially as renewable energy explodes in efficiency and value.

Off topic, but are you talking about the renewable energy that relies on finite metal batteries that use fossil fuels/natural gas to charge?

EVERYONE RESPECTS THE SUPREME COURT, Even when they make decisions many people do not like, They are an Apolitical Institutions, That makes decisions based on their interpretation of the Constitution. Many times they have to make decisions they don't like, because The Constitution dictates how they vote based on law, Since John Jay they have been revered by all Americans.

I'm not sure why so many think this "right" is going away. The Supreme Court ruling, IF enacted, does not prohibit states from continuing to allow abortions. States will choose for themselves how to deal with abortion.

It's not a law blocking the "right" to abortion. It is basically just saying that the states have the right to determine their own policies (which should not be misconstrued as a ban on abortion). About the only place that might have the votes for an outright ban on abortion would be Utah, and they have very few abortions because they have the lowest incidence of out of wedlock births in the country. Most abortions will still occur because most abortions take place in California, Nevada and along the eastern seaboard (places that don't really restrict abortions to begin with):
Ten States with the highest abortion rates (per 1,000 women age 15-44):
District of Columbia (32.7) New York (29.6) New Jersey (25.8) Maryland (23.4) Florida (20.6) California (19.5) Nevada (19.4) Connecticut (19.2) Rhode Island (17) Delaware (16.7)
Ten States with the lowest abortion rates (per 1,000 women age 15-44):
Wyoming (1.3) South Dakota (3.1) Kentucky (3.8) Idaho (3.9) Missouri (4) Mississippi (4.3) West Virginia (4.4) Utah (4.4) South Carolina (5.3) Nebraska (5.5)
Kind of crazy to think that a woman in DC is 25 times more likely to have an abortion than a woman in Wyoming.
