You cannot "take athletes with you". This is not a good look and heavily frowned upon by the whole sport and NCAA. People get fired for less. Big time coaches know this. You leave, you take the hits. Surely she or he would not try to pull that off.....but some coaches rationalize this behavior because of unchecked egos and convince/groom the athlete it was their idea .
It is not “taking them” if the athletes want to go. When the Powell’s left Oregon plenty of runners followed them to Washington. Athletes of that caliber with Olympic dreams should be allowed to follow their coach if they choose and are still working towards a degree... Coaches leave all the time why are athletes any different? Many athletes go to a school almost entirely for a coach (that may not be a great reason but it is true) they should be able to leave when a huge part of their life changes. And if they happen to choose the same destination as their coach who are we to stop them? Many see other options in the portal and may go elsewhere but that behavior is definitely not “frowned upon” when they are athletes of this level. Everyone gets it. All those girls in the portal are a long way from home... they went to UGA for Petros and they are leaving because he is too, I don’t see a problem.
We don’t even know if he will take an NCAA job yet, but if he does whose to say they were groomed... there are not that many elite triple jump and multis coaches out there... The training has obviously worked well for all of them. They may be young but these are young adults they will not be tricked into uprooting their life and moving across the country unless they want to themselves.
Having a brand new Track and a place to do indoor workouts in the football practice facility Is not what I would call terrible facilities for UGA.
No AD is just going to build and indoor track for no reason in a warm weather state. If a massive raise and an indoor track is his demand he will struggle a lot to find a spot.

UGA facility is probably bottom of the barrel for the SEC. granted I have not been to all of them.
Petros never asked for a raise. He has been fighting for an upgraded facility/indoor facility for 5 years. He won two ncaa titles and a bunch of top 5 finishes and that gives him the right to ask in my opinion. Uga facilities are indeed bottom of the SEC by a good bit.
Petros is playing his cards. Don't be fooled. Not many NCAA programs will match his current salary. That leaves him high and dry within the NCAA. I can see him stepping out and going the elite route. That would support why his athletes entered the portal so early. No fool would let the dogs go after your hitters without a NCAA job confirmed. He's setting them up for an opportunity outside of Georgia, with no intentions on coaching them.
Petros is cool & all, but does anyone have any updates on current/future/potential job openings within the sport? Thnx :)

Their improvement on the men’s side has only been due to George, who is leaving after three years. In addition they are losing their #3 on the men’s side. The women who were beating Illinois 3-4 years ago have regressed, while Illinois is making nationals. Plus those girls you mentioned who are leaving “due to not being good enough” include their #3 and top 800 girl (who has now run 2:06).
This doesn’t even factor in the amount of athletes on the team who have had to redshirt years due to chronic injuries. But please, if you are more informed and can tell me why Mark couldn’t run for a year after making nationals and is now running 8:44 3k’s and slower 10k’s on the track than his XC time, please do so...

Well the 2 men who are transferring are grad transfers, so there’s that lol. Also, the 800 girl who transferred never did anything at Nebraska and was a waste of a scholarship. Way to backtrack on what you said previously about the girls in the portal now. The girls in there now are a different story than the one who already transferred. And maybe if you knew how many scholarships Illinois women’s distance program had compared to Nebraska, that might account for the performance difference, but hey, you know everything. And as far as Mark goes, he is and always will be injured. No matter what training he does and how much cross training he does, he will get hurt. Doesn’t matter if a blind squirrel is his coach
