I agree, but I wonder how that will actually play out.
The next president won't direct the justice department to prosecute the ex-president. Even leaving it up to the AG to look into it will smell of third-world-dictator-style political retribution.
We might need an independent commission of some sort to look through his crimes and make recommendations. We will need some respected Republicans to go along and join the commission. Maybe a retired senator or two. As much as he deserves to be strung up for treason, we will need to bend over backwards to make sure that he is treated fairly.
And in case you missed my larger point, I'm not sure that our current justice system is set up for such an unusual path to prosecution. It will probably require some legislation, which in itself might tear the country further apart rather than allowing us to heal.
There will be great temptation to just let him off the hook like Ford did for Nixon. I don't think Tiny will be pardoned. But it's going to be very hard to actually prosecute him.
It certainly won't be hard for NYS prosecutors to go after trump. It will be a path to fame and electoral glory in that state. 'I took down Trump' will get someone elected many, many times.
