Down to 14,850 from a peak of 15,700 I believe. Maybe 5% What's the bottom? I am betting sub 13,000

This poster didn't see inflation being contained. He was wrong.

And TLT is up 2% this year. I've started buying long term bonds again, fwiw.

But we'll only get a few rate cuts, not a lot - he was correct on that.

Interesting.

They (Nvidia) announces their earnings a bit later than the rest of the Mag 7 co-horts, next week, Aug. 28th.

This will be pivotal, so much has been priced into their current valuation, and thier about as big as it gets. And they are subject to some sizable swoons.

One to watch...

$1,000 invested in Goog/Alphabet about 20 years ago be worth $65,000 today. $1,000 invested in NVDA 20 years ago would be worth $765,000 today.

I have seen a couple abstract art pieces made by 'AI.'

they are of constantly moving shapes and colors - best natural analog is something like water sloshing in a box but the waves leave impressions in the air. It was a beautiful thing.

But that's fine art. Some artists will create some lovely things with AI, I'm sure.

More interesting is in fiction and filmed entertainment...can AI create moving images that people want to see, and stories they want to hear. I don't know. I've seen some images produced by AI that I'd think were real people if I didn't read the caption describing them as fake.

Your philosophy would ALWAYS have you saying such things. When, in your opinion, was there EVER NOT phony job numbers and a subsidized economy? You're wrong on both of those though, by the way. Here's the thing, brother, when the game is played a certain way, you just accept that as a given. That given should NOT keep you from investing as you should. In baseball, they use bats...and only wooden ones in the MLB. With investing, you have to deal with countries all over the world putting their thumb on the scale...that's just how it is. Being a permabear is crazy.

The Fed likely WILL cut rates because it has hinted it will do so, and we are now in ranges it set for doing so both with the rate of inflation and the unemployment rate.

Should The Fed cut rates? Yes. It SHOULD have done so a while ago. BUT, should that matter to people who invested as they should have and not overly borrowed money? No. In the grand scheme of things, The Fed doing this later than they should have matters not.

That was a heck of a dip back a few weeks ago, but markets are recovering nicely, and I;m up solidly on the year (and the indices) as well.

Just to be the humble self that I am, it wasn't any work on my part. I (or rather WE as all NEW investment money these days comes from my wife's salary) invest like clockwork and it is all done automatically. I spend more "work" figuring out what to watch on any of the 7 streaming services I have.

The markets have done well this year, and I've just capitalized on that.

A couple of economic antidotes. Yesterday I bought a 10.2 inch 9th generation 64 mb Apple iPad at Costco marked down $120 to $199. This replaces my similar size seven year old version that has issues with the Flying Pie Pizza app, among other things.

Our town has two major employers, Intuit and Pet IQ. Intuit bought the former T Sheet that owned two large commercial buildings. Closed both and some employees will receive transfers. Pet IQ sold itself to a PE firm, announced hundreds of layoffs before the sale, and will be exiting some businesses. They also have one of the larger commercial buildings in our relatively small town.

Eagle, Idaho has been one of the fastest growing cities in recent years. Zillow shows 434 homes for sale, out of a population of 32,299, which does not seem high, but Zillow forwards new listings daily, and few seem to be moving. One of our elderly neighbors is selling her house at auction with a starting bid about 40% below market.

Also, today I was running with a new training partner. As a captive listener I was telling him one of my Milhaly Igloi stories. As I was looking for more color to forward I found this piece from World Athletics, the governing body for track and field. Last year they honored Igloi when Hungary hosted the World Track and Field Championships. A truly remarkable individual, and an honor well deserved. The article focuses on his coaching accomplishments in his home country, Igloi had a tremendous influence in this country.

That's the kicker - the time spent on tracking the markets relative to payback. There's obviously different game plans, and ultimately, it's a very personal decision. One can only hope that each of us finds a strategy that suits us, and the returns are commensurate with what we've put into it.

As for me, I get the feeling that I'd be obsessing over this stuff regardless of how passive my investments and investment strategy was. I fuss relentlessly on things far less important, for that matter... And that leads me to be rather out of line with what is recommended in terms of stock exposure, diversification, and riding out downturns, but it's worked for me so far, so I don't feel inclined to change just yet.

Anyways, here's to everyone's continued success, however they set the parameters to achieve it.
