Igy's posts do not reflect any thinking. I don't mean that to offend. And I don't mean that Igy is unintelligent - not capable of thinking. I simply mean that Igy's posts are all about his feelings, not about rational arguments or thinking.
Igy's posts could easily be summarized as simply:
"Get off my lawn!"
No thinking involved.
bad post
You might disagree with Igy but he's putting up interpretation of the current place the country and markets are in. He only gets things factually wrong when he throws around the terms 'communist' 'socialist' etc.
but almost everything he writes is analysis. Whether you agree or not. And analysis implies thinking of course.
That's simply, factually false.
I know that Igy is capable of thought and has posted things that reflect thought.
However, on these topics about the decay of society, downfall of America, etc., he is not posting thoughts. He is posting feelings.

I think you are totally hooked into woke nonsense. Normal people are no longer intimated by your weak racist claims.
Here is a perfect example. Where is the thought involved?
Igy you lived through the awfulness of the 1970s turning into the much better 1980s...you saw firsthand the weirdness and sickness of the 1970s...yet you think that America of 2024 can't renew itself again.
I'd argue that the 1970s were worse in just about any possible category you could come up with than the current state of America. And we survived the 1970s, thrived in the aftermath, and have become even more powerful a nation.
The benefit we gain from age is supposed to give us perspective like that, from living through good times and bad. What we are living in today is unquestionably 'good times.' Except for the very bad politics I'd guess. And the music is terrible these days, yes.
I'd hope that you would see that you feel better about the terrible 1970s because you were a young man then and the changes and weirdness were your generation's doing so you didn't see it bad as it was.
But I guarantee the 70-year-olds in the 1970s were grousing like you are grousing now. They were proved wrong. Which could be a lesson to learn, right?
Thanks agip.
I don’t feel the 1970s were that bad. In fact it was easier to do things then. I was in already in college for the first draft, lottery number 19. So, if not in college I would have been drafted, retained my 2S status until my graduation in 1973. I met my wife in 1972, asked her out for the first time after I returned from competing in the Olympic Trials, probably the best track meet in history. That same summer I campaigned for George McGovern, someone that actually understood the horrors of war as a B-24 pilot. I was in a minority of McGovern voters while at Oklahoma State. Following graduation I was hired at Northrop Aircraft, first in the Material Division, and earned a promotion to the Marketing Department as a Senior Contract Analyst. In 1974 my wife and I got married, and we will celebrate our 50th anniversary in August. I quite Northrop in 1975, and spent six months living a dream of just being a running bum in Lake Tahoe.
Then I decided I wanted to be a coach, went to graduate school while my wife worked full time at a health insurance agency. I graduated in June 1977 and took my first coaching job at New Mexico Junior College. We packed our bags and moved 1,000 miles east for the promise of $100 a month. In 1979, head coach Larry Heidebrecht and I coached the team that won the NJCAA Indoor and Outdoor National titles. That fall, I became head coach at Barton County Community College and we bought our first house for $14,500. The 1970s were good to me.
Of course my daily comforts are better today than at that time, but there is a trade off. The military industrial complex has become a greater force of evil. Technology has been a great benefit, but also has increased perversion, loss of community, government and elite powers to manipulate. The financialization of America has created waste, materialism over production, and a wilting away of values, and of course $35 Trillion in debt. Something is amiss, America has the highest obesity rate in the world, same with homelessness, drug and alcohol abuse, and the sad decline of American cities.
My wife and I went back to our hometown of Santa Monica in 2017. It had declined so much, and it has only gotten worse, says friends who still live there. One has to be careful when going to walk his dog from homeless vagrant criminals. We will likely never return. I tell this story, I met my wife when she worked at Foster’s Freeze (like a Dairy Queen), on Pico Boulevard across from the track at Santa Monica College, The owner was a WW II Navy Veteran. Ran a tight ship, the place was spotless. The American flag went up every day, and I asked my wife for a date one day when she was taking the flag down. So, I decide to take her to lunch there in 2017. The place was filthy, graffiti everywhere, marginal food, and the staff could not speak proper English.
Many important things related to quality of life are not better. Our leaders are drunk with power. The have sold America off for 30 pieces of silver. As far as music of the 1970s, most it I could do without. I can’t stand it when they are playing 1970s oldies. I prefer the too often drunk Morgan Wallen, or less so Luke Combs.
Igy
well I'd say the hippies and the drugs and the poverty and the endless 6%+ inflation and the terrible stock markets and the endless 8% unemployment and the vietnam war and all the riots and watergate and the terrible air quality, everyone was a smoker, wars all over the world, oil embargo, and the open corruption of politics and the wrecks US cities were and the cold war and the many proxy wars and the low wages etc
made the 1970s really terrible.
I grew up in the 70s and it was frightening how bad things were. I remember the sense of America being a has-been, not recoverable.
You are factually wrong to say American cities have declined. I mean watch a movie set in any American city in the 70s and marvel at the rubble that place was in the 70s. They were wrecks. Now they are recharged and the indisputable engines of the US economy. 1/24 of NYCers are millionaires! Neighborhoods have been fixed up by immigrants, crime is down 80%, etc. Your worrying about the cities is unfounded. Except DC and Baltimore and Detroit. Not good things there.
But oh man the music was grand. And the movies. And the books. What a time for the arts.
I'll agree that tech and wealth has cost us community. Everyone just stays at home and is entertained today. We really need to put down the phones.
At least we do agree the country is more prosperous these days. Which is a big deal.

This summarizes Igy’s issues. He equates non-English speaking people with filth and admires a singer like Wallen who is known for using the N-word. We should not be surprised given his use of “Igloi” in his handle.
Not sure why it's funny. Maybe work to remove those casually racist comments from your vernacular. You're not better than anyone else.
Normal people are increasingly on to the liberal perverse use of language to push their agenda. Like DEI, anything other than what it claims to promote. I suggest you purge yourself of the woke mind virus
Here is another example.
"woke mind virus"?!? This is not an expression that suggests thought. It is all about Igy's feelings.
And igy's feelings can well be summarized as "Get off my lawn!"
You're not black. You using the term therefore renders you a racist. And it is abundantly clear that you don't care.
The point is simply that some are offended by the use of the term and you insist on using it.
The rest of your diatribe seems only to suggest that you somehow link your insistence on using offensive terms with your blind campaign against some who would be offended by you doing so.
That is baloney, I can say whatever I want, whenever I want. Your political correctness has ruined the most simplest things in life, like comedy, for example. You are a cultural turd in the punchbowl.
And you can have your offensive posts deleted by the mods?
Why is that? Because they are woke?
Or because some here are committed to treating members of our community with respect, and in order to do so, avoid the use of racists language and terms.
I'm pretty much through talking to someone who doesn't give a damn about anyone except them self.
But let it stand clear, for the record: you used racist language on this very thread, it was deleted by the mods., continued to use it in disregard of others, and emphatically declare your right to say whatever you want.
I think you are totally hooked into woke nonsense. Normal people are no longer intimated by your weak racist claims.

Igy is correct to say that 'woke' has gone too far.
did you know doctors and professors have to explain to committees how they have increased diversity in the world, personally? In order to be hired? The crazy way leftists have divided the country up by race is incredibly damaging to the nation's fabric.
It takes thought to go against that, esp because he is correct.
In fact, there's a mighty pushback against campus politics moving into the mainstream and it takes some thinking and bravery to push back. I'm on Igy's side on a lot of it.

"woke mind virus" is a phrase made popular by Elon Musk.
I'm thinking that if one of the world's most accomplished engineers and businessmen uses it then there's some good thought behind it. Whether you agree or disagree with Musk and Igy. The question is 'thinking or feeling.' Not 'do I agree with Igy and Musk'

Show me that it is a thought. Define "woke nonsense" and then show me one instance where I displayed "woke nonsense."

well whoever you are, I hope you will do a little reading and listening and thinking about the 'woke' stuff being criticized and think whether making race and certain kinds of diversity so important is wise for a country.

Everything you said does exactly zero to back up Igy's claim (bolded above for your reading pleasure)

I am perfectly happy to discuss what are the best approaches to handling issues regarding diversity, etc.
I undoubtedly think and read a great deal more than you do.
Now if Igy would like to define "woke" and show me where I have posted "woke nonsense" then perhaps a rational (thinking) discussion could ensue.

And just as a quick followup on this one - I believe that it would be fair to say that Donald Trump has become one of the most influential and powerful men on the planet. And he may well be the most powerful man on the planet yet again.
So, I'm thinking that if one of the most accomplished and powerful men on the planet says something then there's some good thought behind it. I'm sure you would agree, if not with Trump, at least with the notion that any phrase that Trump uses cannot be nonsense.

I have spent enough time on this. My views are clear, whether you used the term is irrelevant, and is the same germ of thought that grows your view of the world. Debating further is a waste of your time too.

Ah
you say ‘good thought’
and that’s a cheat. I didn’t say igy’s thinking was ‘good’ jsut that his statements had thought behind them and not just feelings.
sure, djt has put thought behind his statements. Evil and corrupt thinkkmg but still thinking.

I’ve always thought of you, agip, as a voice of reason and intelligence on this thread. But it is obvious that you shares Igy’s definition of “woke” as it has been bastardized by the far right. I urge you to research the origins of word in Black culture. Maybe then you will realize one reason why so many here consider Igy to be a racist and why ‘woke’ can never go too far.
