The assistants have been running the track program since the 1st track meet this season. Doing a solid job I might add.

Anyone know the scoop on the St. Olaf women's head coach position? Is the head track coach in the running for the job or do they want track/xc separate? Have they started on-site interviews yet?

but he did contribute, to the Men's side getting a trophy spot, so he is not going anywhere, he was Petros first hire. which is why he didn't go to Texas Tech

I heard from a friend on the CMU stuff that their head coach fired the throws coach without warning this morning. Apparently the staff is pretty upset as the guy had good results with his athletes. He also said their head coach is turning the program into and I quote "a place where performance doesn't matter as long as everyone has fun" He was seriously concerned with his job going forward too. Maybe the head coach is looking to turn over the program? Might be a place to keep an eye on for openings.

I wouldn't doubt it! My buddy was blown away. He was pissed off that she fired the guy before MACs and regionals. Why not wait a couple weeks?

I don't know the situation with the athletes cause my friend didn't talk about it but if I went to a school for a specific coach and he was let go I'd look around. Especially if I really liked him and he was let go for no reason other than the head coach had a different philosophy on the importance of performance.

Also curious as to what is going on with Luther and Central..are they waiting until after the conference meet?

Sounds like a rough situation, but they should be aware that their attempts at "contacting other schools" has a few rules they should understand.

Well perhaps I misspoke that the actual athletes are calling around, but people are reaching out to explore whatever options may be available.

My own personal opinion however, although probably not worth much, is that if a head coach has fired a successful assistant coach because they were performing well in not having as much fun, just tells me that the head coach may not be there very long. I can't believe that a school like Central Michigan is going to pump money into a track-and-field program that is not gonna be competitive in the MAC. It's just not a good financial decision for a mid-major.

The throws coach has do e a very solid job there. The head coach was not great at Murray State either, so this will be interesting to see if this is the only coach that is on their way out.

Who decides if the throws coach is successful? It is up to the head coach to define success. Loyalty is a factor. Can he contribute to office work? Is he recruiting the type of athlete that the head coach wants? I would bet the answer lies somewhere in the answer to one of these questions.

The head coach was told she must keep the staff for a year when she was hired. Not hard to believe that this is a tough situation and maybe it just was not a good fit. Even if he's doing a good job, if the staff is dysfunctional because they don't get along or work well together, then it's best to move on and find somebody new. I imagine it's very hard to come in as a head coach and have the staff another person assembled and that could be united forced on you. At least two of those on staff tried for the job she got. This could just be her finding her own people, which she has every right to do.

Assistant coaches need to enhance the vision the head coach has for the program. If the head has a specific philosophy all parties must fall in line.

The performance of your athletes get overshadowed if you aren't ideal to work with
