some number of people will always struggle. but we've very rarely had an economy this strong for so long. especially when our economy is far and away stronger than the rest of our peer group.
fact is, inflation is now low, wages are growing fast, unemployment is low, the dollar is strong, stocks are up, home prices are up...not sure by what economic measure things are bad
I hear you, but I think it is important to remember that if a family is having a tough time buying groceries - or has switched from Safeway to Dollar General - telling them that the economy is great and they must be doing something wrong is a dangerous way to go. And the number of people who can no longer afford to shop at an actual grocery store has increased substantially. I am working so I am not going to go find articles, but I can later if you'd like. I am not trying to fight with you.
Also, inflation surged for the past 24 months, and it has now slowed, but it's not like it is moving backwards and getting easier on people. It won't, I get that, but the last 24 months have absolutely rocked people's budgets. I have people who make well into the 6 figures taking out whole life policy loans just to pay bills and so forth. We're not talking about poor people. The last 3 years have REALLy hurt people. Including - and possibly especially - upper middle class families. They are feeling it.
Anyway, I am not saying the inflation is Biden's fault, or the Dems fault, but not acknowledging it and losing votes WILL be their fault.
yeah I hear you
and we all know that what you are describing is the Dems achilles heel.
they can never say that 'things are good' even when things ARE good, because embedded deep in Democratic Party DNA is the idea that regular people are suffering and need help from the government.
So the Dems simply cannot tell the nation how successful Biden Harris have been with the economy.
So your worry is misplaced. No one is going to say many good things about the economy, and no feelings will be hurt.

This is hubris. It WILL hurt you/us in November. Acknowledging it is important b/c people are really struggling.

There is a word for what you just described: A Bubble. We’re seeing signs of it everywhere. Unemployment is up, which is the straw that can break the camel’s back. Housing inventories are up and with interest rates still high, there is a shortage of qualified buyers which is causing price declines. The tech sector has been slashing jobs left and right. Bankruptcies are up. The ability of the government to take on additional debt has been greatly diminished (in fact it needs to make massive cuts just to maintain the status quo due to the increase interest rate on the pile of debt it owes). The next president (whomever it is) faces a monumentally difficult task. I’m not sure that the current administration is intelligent enough to navigate the coming recession responsibly.
Yeah, the handful of numbers that I remember from the grocery store, and then forget and/or mangle, and then perhaps purposely distort for argument purposes, are what matter.
Not some official numbers !!!!
And those people officiating probably went to the Ivy League !!!
You can't remember what you paid for things 3 years ago?
You seem to be someone who ignores what he sees in his actual life and instead believes what the TV tells him
I've made enough money for long enough that the cost of groceries is irrelevant to me (and that's not a high bar, obviously, and I ain't rich).
If I was a politician, I'd be more careful. I'm not, so I'm not.
Having said all that, it is undeniably hard to, as a politician, "speak" with people who are determined to think that things are worse than they are. Do you claim that things are terrible (lie) just to appease them, and hopefully gain votes? I'd like a country where you don't have to do that. The reality is that I live in a country with a LOT of morans that might make it at least partially necessary. Life suc*s.
I'm afraid that some of you guys may not have done a careful cost-benefit analysis before encouraging M*G*s to get out more. Just for starters, on the cost side, do you guys actually want to see them more?

You are callous. Tens of millions of Americans struggle financially and you say "the cost of groceries is irrelevant to me"
Not a single Dem will read this or give a damn. The fact that the Dems have ruined cities nationwide doesn't click with them. They have gorged on the lies from the mainstream media/propaganda and that is all they know. Agip is Exhibit "A." They don't care about facts - they care about the far-left liberal narrative. sad.
OK, so maybe he tried to get out of an unpopular war. But it's not like as a presidential candidate he mocked all POWs. Or as president (and yes, I fully believe the storie/s), he mocked all veterans.
He mocked all POWs? BS. He mocked McCain
He mocked all vets?
Any evidence of these claims?
"I like people who weren't captured." But you probably knew that. Not to mention: He gets a pass for JUST mocking McCain? Shot down, terribly injured, nearly died, tortured, 5+ years in the Hanoi Hilton?
All vets: See General Kelly claims. And because I know Trump (and a retired 4-star has at least SLIGHTLY above average credibility), I believe EVERY ONE of them. And you likely knew about these, too.
Silly games, every day. And idiots like me who play along.

ah yes the ruined cities that subsidize all the red state sloth and the ruined cities where crime is down 80% from its peak.
those cities

if they are switching from Safeway to Dollar General, they might not be the most economically savvy people.
I think people forget we had a decade of virtually free money (which is not good or normal) which allowed the investor class to subsidize all sorts of things like streaming, airbnb, uber, lyft. door dash etc. Those business now need to turn a profit. Like most business usually do.
Listen, I agree. I also realize that I am commenting at the same time as a lot of trolls and I am probably getting lumped in with them but I am trying to be earnest here. A looooong time ago in my career, I worked in retail merchandising. It was a very fun and interesting job. I learned a lot about certain chain stores' target demographic. A lot of them surprised me, like that Target's key customer is a stay-at-home mother of a family making over $150,000 (I am sure that has changed, but this was at the time) who shops during the weekday.
Anyway, that is a digression. One of the more important things I learned is the following:
A 24-slice meat lovers pizza from Costco for $20 is a much better deal than two $5 four-slice microwave cheese pizzas from Dollar General. But if you only have $15 in your pocket and can get the 2 smaller pizzas, a 3-liter of Coke, and a box of cookies, you go with the latter. You have to. Many people find themselves in this position and that is why they switch to Dollar General.
And don't forget that we're not talking about personal finances in this thread, we're talking about votes. Unfortunately, most people are not economically savvy. What I am saying is that calling them unsavvy with money and refusing to acknowledge their financial pain is not going to win them over, and could lose votes.

this is a mishmash of truth, false and half truth.
try harder. Be more accurate. Come on. It's hard but it's worth it.
You callously claim we are not in painful times and then claim Trumpers don't care about people in pain.
No self awareness.
It's "logic" that's missing from one of us. At best.
Oh, and AGAIN, we're NOT in particularly painful times. But keep saying it, because it might get the libs. And keep pretending that Trumpers are, civically, good people who care about human pain. A person who really and truly cares about human pain could NOT have watched Trump for the last 9 years (or 9 weeks?) and still support him.
EVEN WHEN Trump is in charge of the dept. that "produced" them!
Oh, never mind, I forgot, DEEP STATE.
What?
Trump has not been president for nearly 4 years.
Here, I'll say it SLOWLY: Idiot Trumpers will criticize anything that Fox or Trump tells them to criticize EVEN IF it originated from the Executive Branch that TRUMP RAN. Got it? They did it then, they'll do it again, if given the chance.
