Down goes the Dow

It seems that the management is frowning upon off topic lawn care discussion, so let's give this a try.

In that I was not getting the ROI (return on investment) from my initial seed investment, I doubled down and invested with another round. Now the strategy is paying dividends and sprouting returns. I think my strategy will reach maturity in the coming weeks, though I expect that I may need to repeat the cycle annually. Will reevaluate conditions in the Q1 2025.

Big up day for the Nasdaq. I mean, like totally reversing yesterday's swoon after the release of the CPI.

I gather that the PPI number released this morning helped in that it showed a cooling of wholesale prices last month.

Some big banks announce earnings early tomorrow.

Earnings Scorecard: For Q1 2024 (with 6% of S&P 500 companies reporting actual results), 83% of S&P 500 companies have reported a positive EPS surprise and 53% of S&P 500 companies have reported a positive revenue surprise.

Don’t drink the water.

The S&P 500 started the year at 4742 and already hit 5250 recently, a gain of nearly 11% YTD. Anyone else think it probably won't climb much beyond that the rest of the year? I have a hard time seeing the S&P 500 gaining more than 5% between now and December given this massive climb, but maybe I'm missing something... Rates will be cut some, which should help, but looking around at the people I know and my own situation, I don't think most people have much more disposable income than they did a year ago. Inflation is still affecting most people.

Strong retail sales numbers released this morning sending a note of concern through the markets that the Fed will be in no hurry to start lowering interest rates? Markets have switched from slightly up to slightly down on the day.

One thing I have learned over the years is that my predictions for the market are usually wrong.

This 70 year channel is quite powerful. It has accurately given top and bottom signals.
If true, then 1776-1850 on the S&P 500 in 2023.

I've noticed this thread gets very quiet when markets are declining. It would be cool if somebody could plot post count over time and overlay that with a plot of the DOW or SP500...

I'll admit I also wonder how Sally feels about his investment in DJT, if I may be so bold to ask?

It has fallen so much it can only go up from here, yes? (just kidding). A stinker so far but I knew better than to buy a lot of it. Not sure what the opposite term for "throwing caution to the wind" but whatever it is, I did that!

Every investor should read this and remember it:
