One more thing on estate planning...in my experience the one thing people get wrong often is not being clear on beneficiaries and having them set up for every dang account. When ownership/beneficiaries are not clear or just plain missing it makes life very difficult and expensive for the executor and heirs.
And also ownership of houses and cars often get discombobulated, and powers of attorney are not in place ready to go.
Which is one reason to have a trust...if everything flows to the trust after death...the job of the executor is made easier. And the wishes of the deceased are easy to follow.
The advice was provided as a service, no fee. One of the advantages of working with a CFP. As you said some of this hassel is just baked in.
Igy - I don't remember which Olympic trials you ran (maybe 1972) in, but do the current ones bring back any fond memories for you?
Sally, I qualified in early 1972 at the Mission Bay Marathon (3rd), first time 2:22:20. I caught a cold before the Olympic Trials, ran 2:28ish for 28th place, I believe. In 1972 the marathon was run with the track trials, men only at that time. The marathon was the last day, with the finish right before the finals of the 5,000 with Pre. You can see in the photos the place was packed. I was only 21 years old at the time, and for me nothing personally, athletic wise, will duplicate that.
Photos, start me in center, just in front of Jack Batchelor. I soaked my head before the race, I was an afternoon in June, and rather warm. The second is my finish, looks like too much left. And you can see the packed stands.
I qualified again for 1976 at the 1975 Avenue of the Giants Marathon 2:20:55 (2nd), and I still have the record there for 20-24 age group. In 1976 I was deep in graduate school, more fit for 3-5k than marathon. Trained two days a week with Laszlo Tabori (3rd man to break 4:00 in the mile). The 1976 race was a single event, again men only, also at Eugene. I finished slightly better 26th and 2:26ish.

Sally, here I am on the infield after the marathon watching the 5,000 finals. I am standing with a black t-shirt just above Pre’s head. A simpler time.
Couple other trivia, I am racing in Nike Moon Shoes. Made fir me and a dozen or so others days before the Trials. Great shoes, legend has it soles were made from Mrs. Bowerman’s waffle iron. A pair sold in recent years at $100k. My wife likely tossed the old stinky shoes at some point. We moved quit a bit in the early years of our marriage.
Lastly, I was the only entrant at the meet for the Santa Monica Athletic Association, Mihaly Igloi’s old club, and foundation club for Santa Monica Track Club. The Santa Monica Track Club started that year with the new Olympic cycle.

There is this line in a very good Japanese movie, Tampopo I think it was, where this uber cool gangster takes a call on his cellphone while in the arms of his gf. He hangs up and says, "oh, damn. I made too much money again."
Excuse me, folks, I have to revise a spreadsheet before a meeting I have this afternoon.
With 46% of companies reported, S&P 500 Q4 GAAP earnings per share are 16% higher than a year ago, the 4th straight quarter of positive YoY growth and highest growth rate since Q4 2021.

I think I can say with some confidence that this has never happened to me before:
The SP500 is +90 bps
but my portfolio is down 10 bps. (mostly because of bonds cratering but also small caps)
wild day
the good news is the fed just keeps ratcheting down its nowcast of inflation. It thinks PCE inflation is running at 1.8% now. So I'm not too worried about bonds...their prices should come back up as the market absorbs the death of inflation.
it was a $93 stock in oct 2022 when it seemed the company was wasting its billions on the metaverse. And now it's $473.
Causing wacky performance tho. Nasdaq is up 93 bps but my tech fund. VGT, is flat on the day. Everything depends on how much META you have.
AMZN up 7%
AMD up 5%
META was my least favorite of the Mag 7
Check that.
And what's with Nvidia? It's on a tear. I mean, even for a constant climber, it's outdoing itself. Maybe traders see it as the last chance to load up before their earnings announcement, in that they seem to be the only one that hasn't announced yet.
