Finally, and this is more a personal preference/observation, it just doesn't seem fun. Running is supposed to be a fun activity. Shuffling along on easy runs and running precise sessions three times a week isn't my idea of fun. What happens when your running buddies want to meet up? "Sorry guys, my easy pace is :15/km slower than yours, I'll see you at the parking lot later!"
On the contrary, I find this training extremely fun. I enjoy every run, every day. I never feel trashed. I never dread going out and running any workout. I look forward to every run and every workout, because I know I am going to enjoy it.
Also, there have been many times that I have run with someone else that runs much slower than me. I slowed down and ran whatever pace the slower runner wanted to run. Now, if someone faster wants to run with me, I let them know that I am going to run very slowly. They are welcome to slow down and run with me but if that is too slow for them, they are welcome to speed up and run whatever pace they want. But my experience is if people are planning on running together, then the slowest runner sets the pace and everyone else just goes along with them.
