Interesting, this one.
You know the phrase 'overcrowded trade?' Meaning when it feels like too many people own one stock or one sector, causing prices to rise too much? The thought is we should avoid overcrowded trades because prices are too high there.
This tweet says some form of big tech has been cited as the most crowded trade for six+ years. And still that amazing performance from the sector
5 yrs: 24% per year
10 yrs: 19% per year
Tech just seems to be the best thing to invest in, period. No questions.
In my world, 'how much to overweight tech' is one of the 2-3 biggest decisions.
And 'should we be contrarians' is another question. This data point says 'no.'

THE INCREDIBLE CONSISTENCY OF THE MARKET'S 'MOST CROWDED' TRAT
This chart from the most recent BofAML fund manager survey is pretty wild when you think about it.
Over the last 6+ years, virtually every single month, some flavor of 'big tech' has been identified as most crowded.
