What happened to elected Republican officials? It reminds me of the analogy of the frog in water being heated to the boiling point and not jumping out of the pot.
Radical level fear and subservience to trump, crazy lies and willingness to believe crazy conspiracy theories, shameless hypocrisy clearly evident for the world to see, and almost a total absence of ethics.
Just like the frog there is no off ramp for them. They have become increasingly more entrenched into behavior that will doom them.

About Graham, I'm virtually certain that I wouldn't joke about him likely being closeted homosexual if it weren't for his 100% unprincipled political/civic behavior. Now, not being gay, I obviously can't say how difficult it can be to come out. And we could assume that he has not for strictly PERSONAL reasons. Much, much more likely, I believe is the following:
- He's a (pretend?) conservative, HIGHLY-ambitious, unprincipled homosexual living in SOUTH CAROLINA (...do you really think that no Rs in THAT state care about him being gay?).
- He was too lazy or otherwise disinclined to move to state where he could come out and easily maintain/establish a high-powered political career.
- So, he stayed closeted due to political ambition.
- At this point in the story, am I on real solid ground? No, probably not. Other things could explain it, obviously.
- BUT.......seeing what he did with Trump? A massive lack of principle. "Historic", perhaps. That makes it awfully easy to believe that the ambition-over-all-else that he demonstrated with Trump very likely explained his personal/professional decisions regarding his sexuality in ole' highly-enlightened SC, as well.
He's one of the best known and influential Senators in the country. He set a horrendous example and is hurting this country in a real way. If I did, in fact, misapply his gargantuan lack of principles to his decisions regarding his sexuality, I can live with that pretty damn easily.
