Robert Young fakes run across America

The Putney Clinic was involved in providing the medical care for Rob Young (aka MarathonManUK) during his amazing journey World Record attempt to run further than anyone else in a single calendar year, raising money for three incredible UK children’s charities along the way.

Starting in April 2014 and finishing in April 2015, with his successful completion of the 2105 London Marathon, Rob broke the previous world record by completing 370 marathons in 365 days and amazingly he did this whilst holding down a full-time job!

According to Google, the page was first made on 15 April 2014.

Doesn't matter. It's one more thing that leads to the conclusion that this whole marathonmanuk thing was a contrived scheme from the get go. And those 3 marathons in 2 days were all part of the plan.

Not sure that's a terrible thing, but recall that Rob was doing endurance feats for charity back in 2004, so he was just returning to what he knew.

April 14. Runs first "marathon" on a bet.

April 15. Runs second and third "marathon"

April 15. Putney clinic page for marathonmanuk is created (needs confirmation)

April 16. Marathonmanuk Facebook is created

My point is that it's likely he intended on becoming marathonmanuk before he ever ran that first marathon. It did not happen organically.

Now that I'm running most of my miles at night, I've started running 6 minute miles again.

With a couple of hard 70 mile days I will get the world record.

You can see this on facebook. He starts promoting charities the first week he started marathons.

I'd agree that it would have been very difficult to fake the 3:07 at London 2015. But for a 31 year old male that's run for a few hours a day for a year, even if it's 15 miles rather than 26, 3:07 is a reasonable, but not spectacular time.

Important additional data. I wonder why power10 didn't include the Dublin and Leicester Marathons? How comprehensive is that database of results? I thought it was rather exhaustive if it was including all those small parkrun 5K's and trail races and big city marathons like London.

This helps give a bigger picture of his running in 2014. Back to back marathons on October 26 and 27, 2014. For those following along, here are the links.

Leicester Marathon in 3:19:43 (chip), 3:19:46 (clock)

The course would be an easier one to cut if you wanted to cheat, but his splits fade as expected, which points to it being a legit time.

Dublin the next day in 3:33:46 (chip), 3:33:44 (clock)

This course would be more difficult to cut since it is one big circle.

The 3:19 and 3:28 as his first two marathons in back to back days in April 2014 are still outliers because it's not until October that he can replicate those performances in a marathon race, and I must say, intriguingly almost in identical finish times. But that's after running long (allegedly 26.2 miles a day) for 6.5 months.

The Powerof101/runbritain only lists races that are UKA licences races. There is another race licensing body in UK - ARC that is competition to UKA Licensing so the refuse to list any ARC races.

I have his book on Kindle and I'm going to go an look for the race results of the races he mentions in the book that aren't on Powerof10. My general feeling is though that he probably did the organised races but I'm not convinced he did all these solo marathons around Richmond, London that there is no verification for - that's the bit of his year of marathons that I just don't buy!

If you ever emerged from your basement long enough to look at other sites, you'd see that Andy Persson has said publicly that he is now more dubious about RY's claims on this transcon and that it saddens him. Given the trolling Andy took here with whichever idiot thought it would be a good idea to copy his Username, do you really think he'd bother to come back to read or post more? As a runner himself I expect he has a life outside LRC and has gone for a run instead of indulging your immature demands.

As for CoachKev, nothing public but I wonder if he's just discovered his idol has clay feet and he's not been gifted the shattering inside information he thought made him RY's special friend and defender. That can't be a nice feeling.

Where did Andy make those comments? If he now sees the transcon record was a sham, I wonder what he thinks about the 373 mile run.

Fwiw, I think Andy and Kev got duped by RY to think he was superhuman since they had seen parts of his runs. And since this forum goes overboard on criticism and vitriol, their first reads on this thread would make them want to write it all off as if none of the questions were really worthy of consideration and there were possible explanations to all of it.

I think you're probably missing the point and wasting time by checking old official marathons. He is a decent runner, that isn't contested. What is contested is his ability to do a transcon while doing those times, and all the unofficial "marathons" he claims.
