Don't think Oswego is about to beat fred but they have a decent new team. It doesn't look like they have any of the top guys from last year but they have a lot of young talent.
Oswego does have that one guy with a kick @$$ beard... probably the best in the SUNYACs.
not even from oswego, nor would i have gone there. it was more an error on my statement, i thought one thing, wrote another. they could compete, maybe not with fredonia, but with some other teams this year.
I think the statement you meant to say is that If oswego's no names ran that fast then that has to discredit what RIT did. The course is either on roads again (or pancake flat and packed dirt) or is short. I believe last year the houghton kid ran 30 to 40 seconds faster on his home course than he did at geneseo, and we all know geneseo is a fast course.
Anyone know how the williams race played out? Looking at the results if you add Zach Maher in for NYU they probably beat Williams. NYU has 7 before Williams 6th without Maher. Either NYU will move up in the rankings or Williams down, depends how you view it.

I think both teams stay the same because Williams top 2 give them a major advantage in a deeper race and they still have an equal 3rd, better 4th and better 5th runner than NYU. Wil Maher make that much of a difference seeing that he is a 1500 guy?
Maher is the 14th top returner based on last years NCAA meet, he should in theory be NYU's first guy, so yeah I think he might make some difference. And yes I would agree that Williams 2 KENYANS give them a big advantage at an NCAA type meet where Kosgey figures to be a top 5 guy. Williams program used to be a top 5 team without kenyans.
Mike Bott of Oswego is the MOST annoying kid to run next to for an 8k. Kids a goofy moron who can't run in a straight line.
Houghton is a very fast course, but it is a full 8k. Almost completely flat, 90% grass with the rest on a dirt/gravel trail.
Looking at past results, the Houghton course is somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-20 seconds faster than Letchworth. Hard to get a really good comparison, because not many people run at Houghton, but looking at Houghton's results last year,
Ballard: ~15 sec slower
Jarvis: ~10 sec slower
Stauring: ~10 sec faster
McConnell: ~30 sec slower
Very small sample size, but I would say a 15 second adjustment sounds about right. Nowhere near 40 seconds though.

Nationals weren't at Oberlin last year, it was at Hanover. And it is a much faster course than Letchworth. The conditions at Hanover last fall were cold, yes, but the course was hard and everyone ran fast.
To compare, at NCAAs in 2008 at Hanover 35 men ran sub 25:00 and 170 ran sub 26:00, compared to 16 sub 25:00 and 135 sub 26:00 in 2007 at St. Olaf. And St. Olaf was pretty fast course as well. Also consider 47 women ran sub 22:00 at Hanover last year and only 26 were sub 22:00 at St. Olaf.
To summarize, Hanover and St. Olaf are faster than Letchworth and I agree that Geneseo doesn't seem to improve as much as many other teams throughout the season.
I ran both courses last year. Hanover was a much, much tougher course than Letchworth. Not even close. Many rolling hills with some sharp muddy turns where everyone had to slow down. Letchworth you pin your ears back and run straight and fast. Faster times at Hanover - end of the year, peaking and NCAAs. Simple as that.
I heard Chris Mateer isn't running for Geneseo anymore. Something about getting caught at border patrol for trying to smuggle something into America on the way back from the Canada meet.

this has been confirmed.
seriously? this sounds like a big deal if true....
A source from the Geneseo team said that not only is he done for the year but also will not be running track. Transfer?
I have heard further confirmation that he not only is done with xc and track but has been banished from the US! possible citizenry change?
who in there right f*****g mind tries to smuggle an adult alligator into the US? and where did he find one in canada?

This is a serious matter. Please do not spread any false rumors regarding Chris Mateer's current legal status. This matter does not need to be discussed in a public forum.
Well that's a shame. It's not going to hurt their team much because of all that depth but still.. Hate to see someone lose their season(s) at any cost. Good luck Chris.

I agree that coach Woods may have the wrong approach but when you say, "Coach Woods at Geneseo only seems to care about doing well at the beginning so they can 'earn' an at-large bid"
That can't be his motive because races at the beginning of the season are not even considered for at-large bids. So don't trash a man that is probably a senior citizen.
