Trabuco is absolutely outstanding, and still getting better, and is the 2nd best team in the country, but still well behind the clear #1 at Mtn Vista.

No way Fossil is ranked that high. They finished 4th at NXR, they're not #6 in the Country. Santiago (Corona, not "Cordova") beat Air Academy handily at Woodbridge and have far more talent this year, and AA is probably more like #10. Buchanan is top 5 for sure.

Yeah and another one of their top 5 runners didn’t score at sections and barely ran any races this season

Air Academy ran without 3 of their top 5 from NXR SW at Woodbridge. Seems you are not up to speed with the Colorado teams. It’s worth remembering that southwest teams went 1, 2, 3, and 4 last year at NXN. So, me saying the #4 team from the SW is actually an acknowledgement that the SW has dropped off or that other regions have improved.

I re-scored Woodbridge taking into account the missing AA runners as FM 98, Ventura 118 and Air Academy 119. Was not aware of Ventura’s injury issues. Air Academy seems healthier now. I imagine a number of the CA teams will be a little tired at NXN. MV seems healthier now. Fossil Ridge has been improving through the season. The top 7 teams in the SW are all top tier teams.

SW may end up getting 2 (Fossil Ridge and Lone Peak) but they shouldn't get theirs until AFTER Cali gets their 2 at-larges.
There should definitely be 4 Cali teams there this year, in one of the most talented, deep and competitive XC seasons of all time. It would be a travesty if Trabuco, Buchanan, Santiago and J Serra weren't all there, as this is probably the best team ever for each of those teams, and all but Trabuco were there last year - and they're definitely going this year.

I’m not as bullish on CA getting 4 teams. Obviously the picture will be clearer in 3 days time, but I think Trabuco and Buchanan will be clear of the field, and between Santiago and JSerra I think one could have an off day.

Last year as the 3rd place squad Buchanan went 17:55, 18:00, 18:05, 18:10, 18:12, and I can certainly imagine an outcome in which one or the other of Santiago or JSerra (or heck even Buchanan) do not better that performance.

They also lost to a nationally unranked / undiscussed team in their own division at sections.

And look at the merge results. They took 6th, behind a bunch of teams not in the national rankings. This merge doesn’t even include Buchanan (they are in a different section) who has a good chance of autoqualifying

Not agreeing or disagreeing with Red Sea's rankings, but apparently you didn't do your homework either. :) Fossil Ridge was 3rd in the SW regional meet. And as another poster mentioned, Air Academy was not at full strength at Woodbridge.

I don't like that California doesn't race each other for the spots. It is easier to do well in a race when you're a frontrunner and all of these teams not being in the same race means that the 4/5/6/7s of each team aren't fighting in the pack the way they have to in other regions.

There is a huge psychological advantage to be able to front run with less traffic.

Another problem is there are temperature differences between races

If you put 5 in the top 20 at an NXR meet, it's not very crowded. 🤔

I don't like CA situation either, but it interesting in that it becomes a true time trial.

For CA boys this year in particular, 15 guys for 5 spots in a merge is crazy. Nice that there is still FL West.

I had the Colorado girls 1, 4, 6. They finished 1, 4, 8. About what I expected. Lone Peak ran out of their gourds. 12 Colorado girls in the top 50.
