How about pace yourself? A positive split is a poorly executed race regardless of weather. Hot weather has been forecast for days.

You can question Coles decision to even run the race but I give him credit for at least adjusting and going off at a reasonable pace. I was about to criticise Ryan Thomson for sticking to goal pace but after thinking about it I guess at his level he has nothing to gain running a 2:20 and has to take risks to run a good time. Unfortunately it didn’t work out today appearing to fade quite badly.

I see Ryan was pretty much even pace to HM in 1:09:07 and finished in 2:21:22 so got to assume adjusted his targets as that would be fine run in hot weather if you looked at those times without knowing who it was. Otherwise I seemed to have "failed" on my predictions although relatively about right. Clearly a tough day but I guess if you enter a marathon in mid Sept summer hasn't usually finished.

I think this just shows quite how special Nick Besters 2:19 at Berlin was last year. If even someone as talented as Cole & Ryan don’t break 2:20 on that course.

Jake has won the battle between the three of those (Jake, Ryan, Cole) it seems as he did a 2:19 Mara in Japan a couple of weeks back
