As people have said on this thread and elsewhere, the two biggest motivations for voting are fear and anger.

I think it pretty much goes without saying that Donald Trump's core voters are both angry and afraid. They're genuinely afraid that their way of life will disappear; they're genuinely angry about the condescension and dismissal that they (often accurately) perceive The Others are directing toward them. DJT's core voters *will* vote; they'll vote for him; and they'll come pretty close to straight-ticket voting for GOP candidates for all other positions.

So it really boils down to fear, and right now it seems that the GOP is making the better going in that regard. There are a lot of fearful people in the country: afraid of religions not theirs, afraid of languages not theirs, afraid of skin hues not theirs. What issue(s) can the Democrats use to spark those same levels of fear? . . . Because simple disgust with Trump will not be enough to win.

Wrong, there are more than enough Democrats to vote Trump out... remember he got wiped out on the general vote. Also, don’t forget that part of trump’s strategy was to try appeal to disaffected Dems who were unhappy with Hillary. Well now we have trump swinging all the way to extreme right since then and we don’t have Hillary anymore. Centrists are certainly welcome but no necessary. Do you think trump can get 46% of the vote again?

A lot of people are more "centrist" than you think. A few people selling news entertainment and generating website clicks are just trying to make it appear otherwise. They're trying to sell you outrage and anger because generally it sells quite well. You'd do well to disconnect yourself from the media news entertainment blitz and social media and actually talk to people face to face. You might find that they're not as evil, sinister, or cynical as you've been made to believe.

I don’t tune into the MSM machine much. The people I talk to that follow current events either hate trump or hate government (some like trump as a result). They are all saying what you are, and I don’t find anyone evil either, but they have all become radicalized in their political positions regardless.

As for the rest who are “untainted”, they don’t know wtf is going on so the ones who will actually bother to vote are just going by what their neighbor or family members said.

Honest answer from an old leftie and now-centrist: The squad, as they call themselves, should shut the phukk up and put their noses to the grindstone, raising money for other candidates (not subversively the way they are), they should assist in writing legislation, they should quietly serve on committees, and build seniority. Seniority is built in the trenches. Hopefully their refusal to play nice within the party will bring more powerful members destroying their careers, and it won't be soon enough. They've done everything except work collaboratively with other members, and the things they do and say are driving division within the party at a critical time. And yes, Omar in particular is marginal in some of the positions she takes. AOC was literally found recently through a talent scouting group. She's a fraud IMO. If you are shocked to hear that this democratic party may very well lose to the worst, most destructive president in our history, your head is deeply in the bubble.

Dude - I hope your post was not actually targeted at Racket. Because if it was then I would suggest you take another read to understand what he was saying (hint - he is not a Trumpette).

They remind me of the Tea Party and the NRA loyalists.

Come to think of it, the Tea Party managed to make most of the Bush tax cuts permanent and the NRA loyalists have taken gun control off the table for any legislation.
