And in that clip he was talking about gun control for military style weapons. He did carry those weapons during his time that he was deployed, yes to Italy and not in Afghanistan or Iraq as he and everyone else admits, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
I admit that he did that for effect, to drive the point that's he's not some namby pamby calling for gun control, but rather a veteran who has used military weapons. You guys are clearly blowing that comment out of proportion.

I'm 47. I joined the Army in 1994 I was stationed in Germany after basic. I was in the 1st AD. Part of my battalion was deployed to Bosnia. My company (Bravo) was left in Germany along with Delta while Alpha and Charlie and HHC deployed. My roommate was put in HHC for the deployment and got killed. I was carrying his casket off a cargo plane while guys like you were molesting your students.
In 2003 I deployed with the 1st ID in Operation Iraqi Freedom II. We relieved the invasion force.
