What a race! The top 3 went exactly as I expected. Centro ran a masterful race and closed in 51 seconds for the final 400! Manzano had the best final 100 of anybody, he always comes up big when it counts. Lomong is a great runner, but still needs to work on his kick to make the final at the World Championships.
Russell Brown ran a gutsy race. Wheating goes home, which is exactly what I expected. What happened to the kick he had in college?
Let's give some credit to both Manzano and Lomong as they used their experience and both speed and positioning to nudge out Mac Fleet for the 2nd and 3rd spots. In some ways, Fleet did a great job, laying it all out there for the last 400 meters. This young man (NCAA champion) is just a college junior at Oregon and could be a new face at the top in another couple years.

Manzano was boxed in forever, because LOTS ran a 52sh last lap, that I could tell.
Even in a 3:45 race, not that many usually do it at USATF's - off memory.
I think it's great when a track and field athlete shows some emotion and celebrates a win! Centro had reason to pump his fist.

There's a reason that Centrowitz, Manzano & Lomong are going to Moscow. They are faster and smarter than everyone else.
The Oregon athletes are cleaning up again today. Add Ashton Eaton and Matt Centrowitz to all the rest who are knocking it down. I suppose we shouldn't be too surprised as Oregon has definitely become the epicenter for the sport of track and field. At this point, I'm looking for Symmonds, Greer and maybe one other Oregon guy in the 800 finals.

Does anyone know Matt Elliot? From what I can find his 1500 PR was only 3:40.52. He had to be the slowest runner in the field so it's impressive he managed to finish 4th.

Can we give some love to 4th place finisher Matt Elliott? Dude only ran a 4:40 1600 in high school (with the rest of his times being similar to that).
Manzano ran a much worse race than Leer, but he is just faster over that last 100. Leer had himself in okay position to finish in top 3, but couldn't kick with the big boys.
