I agree that Chelimo is a once in a lifetime runner for the SoCon. Now just to beat his school record in the 5k, you would have to run an Olympic A standard. By the way, he ran for Shorter which is an NAIA school.

Not only is Chelimo running awesome but socon as a whole is. The socon will have more athletes competing at this years east regional than any other year. Its awesome to see this conference grow like it has. Keep it up everyone.
You are correct about having so many people going to the 1st round. Back in 2003-04, the SoCon had a bunch of good distance runners go to the regionals. Caleb Bailey, Brad Yewer, John Robertson, Adam Puett, Colin Sullivan and Steven Kocsis all made it to the regional championships on time alone. I would have to say that this year tops that.
I know people were taking shots during cc but the uncg coach has done a hell of a job. Say what you will about kenyans but the ones he has gotten have improved with him (already noted how much Chelimo has improved). Also, his women have been great this year and none are kenyan. Has the socon ever had a women's team with four people under 17:00 for 5k? Usually the whole conference is lucky to have one, his team has four. As an objective observer you have to be impressed. He doesn't have the long track record of Curcio or Gautier but he quickly proving that he can match or better them.
Thompson and Koech are gone next year.
Anyone got any info if there will be some more kenyans to replace them?
Imagine if UNCG has 3 sub 14 5k guys next year. Crazy.
Don't be surprised if that happens.
Katam wins the 10k at regionals. Chelimo should qualify, assuming there are no disasters. Unfortunately none of our 3k steeple guys make it. Alex Taylor was the 3rd man out or so. Would have liked to see at least one steeple guy and Taylor make it, but oh well.
Haha, Purcell doesn't make finals. What a punk. Serves him right. Have fun being unemployed, if he even graduates.
Congrats to Manteo Mitchell, former WCU sprinter and SoCon alum for finishing 5th in the 400m at the Olympic Trials. Hopefully he will make the relay team. It would be huge for the conference if he does.
Looks like Danny Williamson is using Mitchell's success as leverage. He's going to be the Director of Track And Field/Cross Country at East Tennessee State!
Who takes over @ Western?
Danny's not going anywhere...he'll be in Kulowhee for life! Loves Western!
i don't know about any Kenyans but they are getting BRANDON CAIN from Coker College. He is a boss. Goes hard everyday and never gets tired
I was under the impression Mike Curcio from Appy had gotten the job at East Tennessee State, not Coach Williamson from Western. Anyone heard anything else? New vacancy in Cullowhee or Boone? or somewhere else in the SOCON??
Last I heard Curcio was still at App State and not moving.
Anybody think Furman is going to get real good real fast? All distance model, new scholarships, and seems like some good and experienced coaches setting up at the most beautiful school in the country?

Calling it now, Furman doesn't get top 2 in the conference in the next 5 years.
Kenyans at UNCG
App won't stand losing to Furman again.
Davidson will remain the superior high IQ school.
And every once in a while Chattanooga will be able to field a full team and be good.
I don't see Furman becoming a legit contender for a while. There ain't no way Scary robert Gary is going to be able to milk the best talent out of SC. and even if he do, it's SC!
Good luck Gary's...while you're at it, pay back the money you owe Ohio State.
that my friend is FALSE
Any predictions for XC?
