In terms of qualifying as many teams as possible for future major events, it's hard to fault the AA's strategy throughout the weekend. It also helped that so many runners performed when needed!

Some really high quality running by a lot of athletes. Great to see
My take is this. Mixed 4 x 400 is through, so stack the mens who are a big medal chance. That mean subbing in Reynolds of Sherman for Hunt, but they can only do that if they were in the squad. Otherwise Zane Branco is there to sub for both perhaps.
next year we should stack our men’s 4x4 for sure, and add Eddie and Gout to the 4x1 on the straights
My thoughts too. Though Hunt did do well and we broke the long standing Aus record. But I think it's worth putting Cooper or Reynolds in to do even better hopefully.
As I think we will struggle in the mixed 4 x 400m anyway as I can't imagine Ellie and Mia will run it. But even if we have Reynolds still in the mixed and Hunt then I think we can do ok still
Well, they did what I wanted. I was hoping Tom Reynolds could run 1 second faster than matt Hunt did in the heat, well he didn't do that, he went 2 seconds faster, and the other 3 maintained their times from the day before.
In hindsight Aidan should have tucked in for the first 300m and then swung into the outside of lane 1, and he'd have come 2nd. Still, they will have all learned form that, and it was still a cracking run by Aidan.
I reckon you need someone with dog in them to run last, and Tom Reynolds looks like he has more. Van Ratingen has the most, but he's not quick enough to run last.
I am very happy for them and the team generally. Men's 4 x 100 ran great too, from lane 1. I'd have Eddie and Gout running 2nd and 4th respectively, with Azzo, Rohan and Chris fighting for the 3rd leg. That's assuming Eddie can change a baton.
Really interesting chat with Seth O'Donnell released by Brady over the weekend. Perfect length for an hour run. Seth's definitely a different cat.
He's very methodical and research based in his training. His education and work as a physio clearly helps his running and injury prevention/recovery. The interesting take-away for me was that he uses AI/chatgpt for journaling after races and gets immediate feedback on any flaws in his thinking and mindset. He dismissed the assertion that it was basically an AI psychologist but that's what it seemed like to me.
He also explained the Maurie Plant race where he ran in front of the pacer. He actually formally requested a faster pace before the race, but was denied. (I think we can work out why if we see who organised the athletes/races for MP)
I don't think there's many runners who think and operate like Seth and I think he still has a very high ceiling that he's nowhere near yet given his training age is quite young. I think he could be really good over the longer stuff too.
everyone in running circles who have met them knows that their are a few men in the MTC group that are extremely immature. Like I’m talking year 8 boys style. It was only a matter of time that something like this was going to happen with Gregson. Hopefully now that this has happened they STFU.
Don't get me wrong, I like watching him race and think he has more in him. But equally, didn't he get 8 stress fractures in a year, or something like that? I've also raised my eyebrows at some of his insta posts. At one point he talked about a training week where there was a day with hill work, a few months later he posted about how hills suck (cost too much, eccentric load etc). Then he talked about doing threshold sessions an hour apart, and that the lactate measurements show recovery in between so it's therefore ok (neglecting anything like mechanical fatigue etc). I'm all for being experimental and challenging norms but there are limits!

Brady did ask him about some of his Instagram stuff and he acknowledged that sometimes it can be a bit much. Seeking engagement etc. He also spoke about running through a stressy in the lead up to World Champs- it was a good listen.

Agreed. There is no uncertainty in the way he talks about his training or racing. Crazy to see what he could do if he was a full-time pro.
Let's hope Seth, Ky and Morgs can all get in a fast 5K in the lead up to Comm Games this year. All are capable of running under 13mins in 2026.
70 runners breaking 15 minutes for 5k at lakeside this morning. Edward Marks for the win in 13:37!
The next generation is definitely coming through now. So good to see.

With Diamond League coming up, who is the mover and shaker to get Aussies into races? I know Bideau had a big role in the past. Is it James Templeton now? Eg for a guy like Seth, aside from being one of our better runners now, who would’ve secured him the spot in the upcoming diamond league race? I don’t believe AA have any involvement when it’s not a major champs…..
Personally I’ve never really understood how some Aussies do or don’t get into the big races overseas. Though for a small country we have always seemed to have a decent amount of mid and long distance track runners going around in most of the meets.

Couple of examples:
Ella Wardlaw is Seth's agent, daughter of legend Chris. So presumably she's got a good, and growing, network.
Stephen Haas manages Claudia and Abby...he's US based and would have no trouble getting diamond league spots.

no one decent wants to do the chinese diamond league meets. aussies have always been able to obtain spots in these meets with little effort
This DL field is a lot stronger across the board than recent years in China. Probably because there's no major championship as a main focus and there's more incentive to maximise your ranking with Ultimate on top of DL Final
Honestly, I'm personally looking forward to the Jess vs Claudia rematch more than anything else, though I'm definitely not ruling out any of other our women being our second across the line. Lachie in the strongest field he's ever run in is a big one too

Early season DL meets are usually sparsely attended by North Americans/Europeans - so Aussie's typically can get more spots. NB still well connected, and typically has a sacrificial lamb that is used to pace a bunch of races presumably in exchange for other athletes getting a start.
Big team of 75 Australian U20 athletes heading to Eugene. A strong team!
This is basically a list of who to watch in the NCAAs in a year or two.
Charles Barrett - OSU
Alexander Cameron-Smith - Michigan
Daniel Williams - Penn State
Milla Roberts - Washington
That's just some off the top of my head. There's a bunch of under aged girls still in grade 10-11 who will probably find themselves in the NCAA in the next few years too.
Also shoutout to Charlotte Wilson for continuing to develop such amazing junior athletes at Essendon.
