On the topic of Chicago marathon and the coverage. Great that I could stream this race live from down uner for the first time , late at night on a day that I started working at an event at 5am. However I was saddled via VPN with the same bad NBC coverage that you guys watched.
I must say, going back to the 70's this must be the worst coverage of any race, any distance, size or importance, that I have ever seen. There was more screen time on the wheelies, interviews with them afterwards, interviews with the majors sponsor etc...anything but the lead pack or the two leaders...progressively getting even worse as the race progressed.
Imagine covering the super bowl, and having interviews with the crowd, with trainers etc while touch downs are happenning. And this is in a country that is given 3 majors, presumably because running is importnat, watchable and draws numbers. This is the point, the majors atre nothing but a cash cow for taking big money from average runners.
Anyway, Kiplimo impressed me, and I think he is currently the best bet to break the 2hr barrier. A few things counted against him here, the wind maybe (don't know how strong), and pacing in the middle km's plus maybe fuelling as he definitely showed signs of muscle glycogen depletion at the end. Responding aggressively to Korir gave him 28:25 from 20km to 30km, but 30-40km was 29:39
