Broen repeated 8th grade, as it was during Covid and he used the excuse that the closed schools gave him reason to repeat 8th grade. He apparently also wanted to maximize his HS athletic chances. He turned 19 in November of last year.
Alberts will be 17 in October, so he'll go into his senior year already 18, but will not be 19 during his HS career.

im looking at an entrants list right now that has both 14 and 8 (for diff runners) in the age column. One is for the runners age, the other is the runners grade.

Agreed. Hate to say it but it's true. Private schools cheat the system and recruit kids whether yall like it or not. It's a problem with every private school in CA and perhaps the nation.

They need to be in their own separate category

Not be tolerated?? It is perfectly within the current rules. You guys don't understand the definition of cheat. And it has been talked about ad nauseam. No one on this board can change the rules, so what is the purpose? And it is not even a California specific problem, as this topic has consumed many threads about other runners in other states as well.

You guys have had some good posts about specific teams and individual achievements, the things that this thread is supposed to be about. If you want, start a new thread about high school age limits and have at it. That topic has run its course on this thread.
