Matt Wisner telling a minor to sexualize an adult isn’t grooming?
How ? Interested to hear more
So far in this thread, New Gen has been accused of providing alcohol to minors at NXN, encouraging a minor to publicly write about an adult New Gen member in a sexual context, and taking the rice purity test-which has references of drug use, incest, and bestiality-with a 15 year old.

My brain is struggling to comprehend how this thread has this much momentum to bring New Gen and its creators down. I spend a decent amount of time lurking on message boards and can generally predict or understand where/why the mob moves the way it does but this topic and thread is defying what I'd consider a normal event response.
Yes the post was bad and it's fair to question it.
Yes the comments were bad.
Yes the New Gen actions/inactions are bad.
But this takedown effort (in this thread only) goes beyond a couple bad content instances and seems more to be fueled by a hatred of the ethos New Gen have curated over the last several years.
The boards response here appears to me like a bunch of boomers feigning offense to this by adopting "woke" principles for this issue only.
Curious to know your opinion on what appears to be a 20+ year old New Gen camp counselor taking a literal sex survey with a 15 year old camper, and a ~25 year old counselor encouraging a high schooler to sexualize his friend.
Do you really not understand how these situations would cause concern, or did you not see that part of the thread?
I cannot stand The Running Effect, but even I can see this is a troll. Leave the kid out of this. He's not my cup of tea but he's definitely not the psychopath that this post portrays him to be.

and that’s just what people know…
there couldn’t be anything else right?
This is the answer here. The problem isn't the stuff we see, the problem is this is only the stuff they want to be seen publicly. And even that is questionable.
NewGen has been a joke from the start. They started off as a youtube video that got a boost because Ben had always been the unpopular kid chasing the popular runners, quitting his own running to focus on only that. He followed to Oregon, and made friends with his "subjects." He was lucky during the pandemic that the Colleges were shut down, and the Summer Training was consolidated to Boulder, where social distancing was easier. But when reality set back in, and the NCAA saw what was happening, they pulled the plug.
The whole mindset of NewGen is flawed. Their "lane" was to criticize old people interviewing College kids, and how they could better relate. Good idea, in theory, but Father Time catches up with everyone. They are now all outside the College age, and their business model is broken. Their idea of revolutionizing the sport is..... print media? A magazine? Yeah, that'll disrupt the industry.
Everyone probably figured they'd flame out soon enough, and get real jobs once they realized their issues. But it seems they've now skewed younger, because there is no NCAA for HS athletes, as they get older themselves.
Ask yourself, look at the instagram posts they are tagged in, especially that bloggers mentioned on here before, would you want a 25 year old having these comments with your kids?

A good mainstream news investigative reporter needs to look into the New Gen activities further.

Boom…this post totally nails it. Everything.
the girls they used to take pics of are all 25+ and moved on in life…right?
who were the girls their own age back in the day who these new gen guys glommed off of? What do they think of 15 year old DM’s, girls heads in lockers and toilets, and the rest…
id like to hear their take? Would they want to look back at their 16 year old selves with pics like this? Would they be willing to pose for these pics now?
Pretty soon you’ll be 30…then what? Fancy yourself still fringe and edgy for the high schoolers?
Aaron is a kid, so he's saying goofy stuff and the girl blogging is playing it up for fun. Let's not start saying mean stuff about kids. Let them be. The adults involved are the issue here.
Agreed. Let's not make this about the kids. This is about the adults in the room and the type of mentorship they are presenting.
How much did Ben pay you to come in and say all this?
The thoughts that would carry any weight in this situation would be New Gen.
You have a podcast? Do you just talk about cancel culture and call out gay people for being too vocal? Yikes man I don't think anything you said here helped the situation but it did confirm some stuff.

Alright, I'll retract what I said here just in case this isn't the real Running Effect guy.
So you think it is reasonable for adults working youth camps to respond to Emma's comments with homophobic and offensive comments?
You think it is reasonable for adults working with children to have sexually charged interactions?
You're just a kid idolizing these people so you'll say anything (such as "the gay son thot daughter video was so innovative, funny, and unique to the sport"). When you're an actual grown ass man, you'll understand why this was all inappropriate.
I coached high school TnF in my early twenties and could never imagine having any of these types interactions with these kids, the way Ben and Matt have. I gave a kid a ride home from practice once and I got reamed hard for it. There’s a reason why a lot of other camps and high school programs have so many procedures and protocols in place, so boundaries are not crossed.
Trent Sanderson up in Crested Butte runs TeamPrep USA and has a successful camp with very knowledgeable counselors and they don’t strike me as archaic as the NewGen crowd thinks everyone else is. If I were some of the photographers like Joe Hale who has done great work, I’d immediately separate myself from these guys knowing that my name could be attached to that trash photo shoot and same goes for On Running.

You just admit that everything NewGen did here was bad yet think the criticism of NewGen is unwarranted? Odd but ok.
You masters and peri-masters runners, please take note: you CAN run faster. I promise! When I was a kid, through when I was 20-24, I used to stumble and fall. I couldn’t get my foot up in time to catch myself. I’d freak out when someone opens a door that swings out towards my face.
I’d get easy adrenaline and cortisol dumps for trivial reasons.
Then, finally, in the last few years, my efforts to learn about meditation, optimizing my health, training, and exposure therapy turned me from a frightened klutz into a vigilant tiger.
You all who never actually trained to develop certain faculties and never tapped into the correct mindsets think that it’s impossible for you to reach certain goals.. it’s silly. You’ve seen what SML, RB, KW, ADS did in 400mH, 400m+200m 4x Oly mama AF did, the astonishing feats of AD and RC on the center field, WvN returning after years of tepid performance and knee injuries, and now a MF mother, FK, running spectacular world records in the ‘pæne-mile’ and midD events. Not to mention, MF-Ing and his insane performances, all while passing the sniff test for clean status. These performances are a gift from God bearing the EK message that YOU ARE NOT LIM-I-TED.
Even if you don’t believe it’s *impossible* for you to run your ideal PR times, you think it’s harder than it is. You can’t be walking around at 200 lbs as a man and expect to run your best time. Get to the 160s. If you’ve drifted up to 170 as a manlet, get to 135.
Build your speed reserve. Maintain that speed reserve. Hint - don’t be a lumbering gym bro and think you can magically still have the speed reserve to hit 25.x for a 200m TT, or that even if you have that speed, that you can come even close to a 4:30 as a 200 lbs lumbering beast. This isn’t Mark Rippetoe’s starting strength press conference - ditch the big person bull crap.
If you realistically want to run 4:30 and also not have the build of an energizer-Ruppy or a starved child, because you’re currently obsessed with being a jacked gymbro, then get your speed up - learn the skill of speed - then take care of the other stuff like goal weight and endurance base, then the specific stuff like lactic acid tolerance and race pace reps
Emma Gee had a 9-page story about it (if one hasn't seen it yet). Very insightful and I'm surprised--not really--that there are people defending NewGen.
Ryder deleted the photos off his instagram. I had linked them around pages 4 and 5 but they are gone now. I think Emma Gee's post, which is linked on page 8 I think has some snippets of the photos.
I thought this Ryder was a tough guy who stood up for his “art”?
Most of them are hipsters with punchable faces, smug. They wouldn't last 90 seconds on the streets of CLE, where I'm from. And they pull this crap about "gay son or thot daughter?" Creepy AF...
