And your Tesla with 100,000 miles on it will be brand new since it has a new battery. Yes?
If a new battery is installed, then it can be expected to last as long as a new car from that point forward.
No matter how worn out the suspension/struts are due to the super heavy battery? How the tires are more worn out than usual due to the super heavy battery?
I buy cars with minimal options because they rarely get used or are rarely that useful. Just as a generalization you’re buying stuff that you might be borrowing money to purchase. Or forfeiting the opportunity cost of making money on. Stuff that generally depreciates quickly over time. And, if it doesn’t, almost always depreciates to zero in the end. And will end up in a junkyard somewhere. You have to have a car you don’t have to all the bells and whistles.
I rarely use the cruise control except on very long trips. I almost always have the transmission in manual mode. I can appreciate technology but not to the point where I’m going to waste money doing something that less pleasurable than the alternative. Using your brain to drive is far more fun than marveling at someone else’s technological accomplishments.
We all have our likes and dislikes. I find letting the car drive itself to be relaxing. And it's safer. But you do you.
For what it's worth, my car's value has appreciated substantially. And the price of FSD has gone up by 50% since I bought it.
I sold 2 ICE cars this summer and both had appreciated over what I paid for them. That’s due to a car shortage and inflation not you’re genius investing.

Correct. Suspension and tire maintenance would not affect the usable life of the car.

EVs have appreciated a lot more than ICE. I posted a chart about it several pages ago.
Their rationale is simple. Gasoline cars pollute the environment. They are the biggest contributor to climate change in California.
With regard to quality, someone might out of habit or ideology might hold onto gas cars without recognizing that they are costlier to operate, have worse acceleration, need more frequent repairs, cause more illness, etc. That's why companies advertise to generate brand loyalty as early as possible, because people then irrationally hold onto the brand. On the other hand, gas cars can be cheaper and will continue to be cheaper until electric cars are truly mass market items. Even now, Tesla has very high profit margins and could sell its cars a lot cheaper but doesn't have to lower the sticker price because of lack of competition.
So I should get rid of my gas car and someone else buys it and it is still causing harm to the environment and now I have another car whose production causes harm to the environment. Why not just keep the car you have and stop producing so many new ones?
Instead of forcing everyone to buy electric, why not just limit how often you can get a new car. Producing more and more cars does worse harm.
That’s a big part of the problem, and economic incentives and subsidies just add to the problem. I drive an 11-year old Opel. Not a great car by any measure, but I manage to get 37 mpg or so by driven slower and eliminating short trips. I’m past 125000 miles and it’s still running well, so I will drive it until it doesn’t drive any more.
I think automakers should make it so that you could upgrade components in the car instead of needing a whole new one… engine, transmission, electronics, etc. But that will never happen.

You’re looking at 6% of the market vs the other 94%. Yes, demand is up on EVs, but the majority are high end cars. High end cars are appreciating more because the supply shortage creates a larger price increase.
Isolate comparable high end ICE cars and those graphs would be a lot closer. Porsches, Ferraris, and certain SUVs (G63 AMG) have gone up by huge margins.

Perhaps you are right, but it doesn't matter in this context.
I was responding to this from SouthernmostIllini:

So the whole context of the post was that SouthernmostIllini was saying I was foolish for spending more on a better car with more features.
This is a silly argument on its face. People buy what they want. And I have enjoyed using my advanced car with its advanced features.
I also pointed out that the most expensive feature I paid for, FSD, has appreciated 50% since I bought it.
Additionally, greater appreciation of my vehicle over a cheaper one bolsters my contention that I made a good choice. This would still apply even if you are right about Porsche and Ferrari.
It seems everything is going electric. Electric cars, motorbikes, ebikes, etc. I don't believe in it. I don't think it'll save the planet. In terms of energy efficiency, it is even worse than gasoline powered engines !
