Dear Mr. Young,

Now that your USA transcon record attempt is over, I would like to share a

few thoughts with you.

Whether you know it or not, whether you understand it or not, you were given

a great gift. You just received perhaps the best introduction to and

coaching for multiday running that anyone could wish for. I'd venture that

any ultrarunner at all interested in running multidays would give

practically anything to have Gary Cantrell, Ray Kroelwicz and Bill Schultz

spend a week watching them run and giving their help and advice.

By the accounts they have shared, you are an ultrarunner with real ability,

and with real heart and determination. By their accounts, you could be

pretty good at multiday running if you showed up to some races and worked at

it. Also by their accounts though, you are not the ultrarunner you have

claimed to be. Few of us who do these things were surprised to learn that.

Your claims were incredible and they were not believed by those who know

(except for a few of the most accepting, trusting souls among us).

You were given a great gift. You also now have a great opportunity.

I do not know what demons drove you to fabricate these incredible stories of

your life. Ultrarunning is a sport liberally populated by people running

from demons though - a great collection of misfits of one sort or another.

You have come to one of the most open and accepting communities on this

planet. You may not think so right now, after the blistering you have taken

in the past few weeks. We are tough on those who cut corners, on those who

try to claim the honor without suffering in the trenches with everyone else,

but (even now) if you simply put that behind you and show up at some races

as the regular guy that you are, run with us, suffer with us, and show us

your real heart, you will be accepted among us. Perhaps not by all, but

certainly by many. You will find support and encouragement among us, and you

will earn respect for what you have really done. Though I can only really

speak for myself, I do believe these things to be true.

My hope is that this appeals to you. By all accounts you are an extremely

nice and likeable guy, and I believe I would enjoy meeting you, and perhaps

sharing some time running in endless circles with you somewhere. I hope you

will consider giving us a try.

Wasn't it 3rd place in his age group, not third place overall?

Thanks for that. It looks like this was a regional club race, with no elites. The guys on the podium could do a ~50 minute 15k--fast amateurs for sure, but definitely not elite. Their bike abilities are probably comparable. They rode the bike leg in ~57 minutes--a full 9 minutes ahead of our hero. Nine minutes over 35k is an eternity. No professional cycling team (or even fast amateur team) would remotely consider him capable of riding with them.

Any new G2 from boots on the ground in Indy? Strange to imagine that the RV has sat in the parking lot of a Golden Corral for the past 24 hours and RY has been in Indy for over 48 hours now. The attention is because RY ran a 7 hour 50 mile a couple days before London (not to mention running a daily "marathon" from January through April) and then states that he spent 20 minutes during interviews during the London marathon.

CoachKev is currently in the process of hatching out Robert Young Mark II from his incubation facility back in the UK. Once the accelerated growth process is complete, CoachKev will FedEx the Mark II into Indianapolis to replace the broken Robert Young Mark I. In the meantime, the crew of the S.S. RV is camping out at the Golden Corral in order to obtain sustinence as confirmed by a photo taken today about 10 pages back.

Ok, Just remembered that London 2015 was Pauls Radcliffe's farewell marathon. Everybody was trying to run with her because they knew the TV cameras would be on her. Maybe it's no coincidence that when I checked, RY and PR first 5k splits are just 3 seconds apart - he was probably trying to get on TV in the early miles, going 'look, I'm as fast as Paula'.

I'm going to have to agree with the ultra people being gullible and will get swindled if they get that emotional and let their guard down. This isn't a movie, these are professional cons we are dealing with.

He's still at Golden Corral? How many calories has he consumed?

That puts him at 10k in 40 minutes. (average ~20 minutes per 5k). For every 5k after that he splits at 28-30 minutes.

I think you misunderstand. There's a difference between gullibility and genuine desire to see someone run his heart out. We weren't gullible here in the first place. Certainly, nothing he does now will be believed unless it's done at a well-run race with lots of observation. But I think we would all be happier if he would just come clean. This letter opens a door for that, a little.
