I managed the calendar for the Marathon Maniacs for a bunch of years. Was asked to list sketchy (and sometimes fake) events All. The. Time to help legitimize someone's attempt to boost numbers. I had to develop my own bullshit filter over the years. I was asked several times to list the races in last year's run across the US... as individual races, btw... which I didn't do because it didn't really pass the sniff test of a normal race/races. HOWEVER, they did indeed document what they did very well as they went and it never seemed to be fake. It was just mostly ignorable... until now. As with the 'calling attention to oneself' aspect of the western portion of this year's run, the business where he made it from Alabama to London and back is flat out weird. And ran a 3:09. I guess he did. It's documented. In the end, I don't think you'll find much fire there, just some smoke. But we DO see the developing "I'm a rock star" pattern. That costs a shitload of money to enact.

Anyway, the Letsrun Detective Squad did a phenomenal job at outting Kip Litton pretty decisively. But even with Kip, the greatest detectives on earth never figured out how he was doing some of those houdini acts during individual races. And it didn't matter.

There's a lot of this one you'll (we'll) just never know. Like how he actually got to Laughlin. Same thing with the race across the US. If he or others skipped some miles, you'll probably never figure out how they did it. Unless Roger the Truck Driver steps up and said he gave rides and has dashcam video.

But it won't matter. Didn't matter with Kip. Plenty of Nope to be had.

He ran London twice and Brighton Marathon once. Those look legit. Most other races and runs have sketchy data or nothing that you can verify, at least that I know of. Maybe someone in the UK knows some of those results better.

Much of RY's sham appears to be distortions and exaggerations of something lesser he had done. I think he ran long for his 370 "marathons" in a year, but maybe not all 26 miles or in the times he claims. His extraordinary PR's are probably splits or distortions like the 10K, which again probably wasn't invented out of thin air. He probably exaggerated the distance of that 7K split. I wonder if his 68 "half" was actually a ten mile or 15K race, but that's pure speculation. I think he went a long ways for the non-stop run, but probably far less than 373.

I'm still not sure what's the story about his cycling. Somehow I think he probably had some connection, maybe briefly, with some team, but not A level and maybe only on training rides, and has exaggerated it. I don't know much about cycling to know.

Kip Litton invented an entire marathon, the West Wyoming Marathon. And created a whole list of names to be in the results.

RY's MO tends to be exaggeration and distortion, not pure fabrication like Kip and the West Wyoming Marathon.

Just my speculation and interpretation. Don't cite me on any of this. And exaggeration and distortion is still cheating and fraud, especially when you're promoting it this way for charity.

The transcon record was massive blatant cheating, especially early in the remote US west. It does border on invention out of thin air since he was probably only running a fraction of the miles each day. Certainly less than half, probably less than a third or fourth. Blatant distortion and cheating.

Again, don't cite me on any of this. This is just my interpretation as I try to fairly weigh the data and evidence.

I commented on RY's London Race early in this thread. My theory is that RY ran certain sections of the race, but a mule carried his timing chip up until the interview point. RY does run past some of the camera points, but I'm not sure if he ran thru all of them.

I'm not sure what chip technology the London race uses, but if it's in the bib he could have just mage a color copy of it until the handoff.

So, if this the investigators on this thread want to look into it, find out what camera locations he missed and what are the splits or time of day stamps of this around him in the pictures. Keep the pressure on team.

Regarding Patrick Sweeney - I have been friends with him for years. Absolutely genuine guy. He is well sponsored and does a lot of good charity work. He actually dropped out of the "Race Across America" as he was unhappy with the way management was handling things.

I don't think that is quite right, it was pretty easy to work out that of the races he pretended to run rather than invent, he hung around posing as a spectator near the back, stepped over the mat then headed off to his car/bike/motorbike and because he did his homework and had a reasonable grasp of timing - unlike say Rossi - he got to each publicised mat in plenty of time to walk past the mat as a bystander.

This is evidenced by the fact that he got caught out and DQd by various secret mats.

The idea that nobody knows how he did it comes from the frankly crazy standards of evidence required by various trolls, many of whom were probably Kip, basically they required notarized, timestamped photos personally witnessed by the Pope, Elvis Presley and the Dalai Lama of every off-course excursion.

That's a fair enough assessment about Kip (and I wouldn't try to despite someone named ExpertKipWatcher)... it's just that what yall worked out is "most plausible theory". And it makes sense.

BTW, when he was making up participants for his races, especially west wyoming but it seems like there were others, my theory is that he was using a copy of Madden to do it. Madden Football generates rookie names for new seasons and the names in those races seemed pretty Madden-y.

Someone else's races, whose name I won't mention, seemed to have been filled in as well. I called it the madden filter, but I think it was shown by the Detective Squad that this person was using something very specific on the internet to do it.

At least with run across the us, the people are real people.

Printer's thoughts on how RY might have succeeded at London sound totally reasonable.

But even if not, plenty of goofy info to go around.

Yall take screenshots of his site before it all gets changed. And even if it does, THANKFULLY he wrote a book. A lot harder to change a book that has already been published...

Certainly worth investigating his London 2015 time. He wouldn't have had much time in London to organize a con in that race with a mule bib though.

It will be interesting to see what he runs at Chicago and Berlin this fall. Those are on his schedule. I'm sure he'll be tracked and watched.

Can confirm jessica hardy and newton baker are still linked but both are more on the propogating the myths side of things rather than actually potentially profiting or funding their lifestyles like lubin, sweeney, ramsay, brown and other.

Will check more on knodel, mazenko, carlson, and cooper. And there are others not listed who I'll list as soon as I put together the linked questionable charities list.

Current darren von soye confirmation or not tbd. He was "in" up until july 2015. The 100 mile club does "race across usa", "run with us america" and "24 hour run for kids" event* in southern california in the spring. Another event the "100 mile club" does is a 50 and 100 mile event called "ec 100" in october in southern california which is billed as an urban ultramarathon to "raise funds for the children of the 100 mile club."

Darren had been "in" in leadership capacities with all of these until july 2015 when he cancelled the october 2015 ec 100 race, (he was RD).Kara lubin, ed ettinghausen and alfa severino suddenly took over as RD's and participants are required to raise a set amount of money for the 100 mile club "charity" in order to enter ec 100. There was a lot of bad blood at that time when darren cancelled the 2015 ec 100 and was replaced by kara, ed, and alfa as co-RD's, (for the children). When darren cancelled the oct 2015 ec 100 kara and ed acted mystified why it was cancelled. A side note: Ed had dreams of starting a "coaching business"* and people he was "coaching" out of the goodness of his heart who had to raise funds for hus friend kara's 100 mile clun charity to enter the race he was "coaching" them for were going to make ec 100 their first ultra. Ed kara and alfa put on the ec 100 as new co-rd's in october of 2015 and the show went on. In addition during this time and separate from ec 100 or the other links, Ed also was trying to raise donations for his friend kara's charity "the 100 mile club kids" for every race he ran in the fall of 2015. This was a separate asking for donations enterprise. That fund on a fundraising site got to around $3200.00 usd, his goal was $10,000 usd, for the children, the children.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but the RV is still sitting at the Golden Corral. Maybe he's lining up sponsorship with them for the rest of the attempt.

Also, his splits look like he probably didn't use a mule bib. His ego would have wanted better splits than a downhill fade like he posted. That was one of the many smoking guns about the transcon record. He was posting splits that were erratic and unreasonable.

To be fair, he doesn't say it was twenty continous minutes, it could have been several stops totaling twenty minutes. Or he could just be an overweight, snaggle toothed fraud.

The first core team link says that Nancy Bennett is "an ambassador for the 100 Mile Club".

Of the core team that leaves Bryce Carlson and Newton Baker as not being in the charity business. These two look very legit.

Bryce had much stronger running credentials than RY. Still he ran slower than RY. But I can't suppress my suspicion that RY ran those first few miles of the daily "marathon" very fast just to get away from Bryce and jump into the RV driven by his charity buddies, i.e. the Race Directors.

Anyway, this was obviously not a real race. It was an event where they had speaking engagements along the route.
