If you believe that, then you haven't been out of your basement for the last 30 years.

It plays well with his base as it looks like he's putting America first and sticking it to the slant eyes and wet backs. That offends you? It should, but there's a very emotionally driven section of our population who whisper those words in select company. This same population doesn't understand the basic math involved when the costs of those tariffs are paid for by the consumer. It's not like companies can just switch production as it would cost even more.
China and Mexico really hold all the cards here.

The scientific community overwhelmingly accepts anthropogenic global warming.

1) The scientific community is made up of stupid people.
2) The scientific community is engaged in a global conspiracy.
3) The scientific community is made up of smart people who know how to do their jobs and are therefore very likely to be correct.
Those who think they know better than the scientists are picking #1. For example, you might hear someone say something to the effect of "Don't you know that some of the thermometers are in urban areas? It's hotter there."
Those who are paranoid are picking #2. For example, on talk radio I often hear, "The global warming crowd is out to destroy capitalism. It's all a hoax!"
Those who are well grounded in reality choose #3.
When exactly is this Global Warming calamity going to happen? Al Gore said the tipping point was three years ago. AOC says we have 10 years left. Someone else said we have like 7 years. It is beyond funny how all the Global Warming Nutjobs come up with these random years of life left in the universe. Fat Hurts - how long do YOU think the Earth has? 5 years? Negative 3 like Al Gore? 7 years? Do you Global Warming Nutjobs realize that the Earth goes through periods of warming and cooling. Do you Global Warming Nutjobs realize that we may be in for a global cooling phase soon? Do you Global Warming Nutjobs realize how idiotic you sound pronouncing global warming calamities for the last 3 decades when the Earth quit warming around 1998? Seriously. Get off this hoax@@
Al Gore

False claim on the data
It's a conspiracy!
Dang, dude - all you had to do was add in water vapor and I think you might have had a royal straight flush!
Well done! Well done, indeed!

Had you started with the word Alabama I wouldn’t have needed to read the rest.
I was almost surprised Trump “behaved” during his U.K. visit. Then I remembered that of course he would have positive feelings toward a queen. He wants so badly to be king so it makes sense to praise authoritarians, dictators and royalty. It’s good that he respects her, but funny to see what motivates his restrained behavior.

The earth will still be here no matter what. The question is, how livable will it be for humans?
Do you know how idiotic you sound when you act like you know more than climate scientists?
Do you know how idiotic you sound when you tell us there is a global scientific conspiracy?

I really don't think Trump's import taxes do play well to his base.
He does not understand the economics of making US importers pay additional taxes on what they bring in.
He seems to think the burden is greater on the foreign exporter.
His base may not understand the economics either but they will understand the impact of things that they buy costing more.
His tariffs seem to be a bluff to get some sort of concession, but he isn't clear on that goal.
Maybe Mexico writes up some BS agreement that does nothing and he will hold it up as a triumph.
Like the first North Korea Nuclear agreement that meant nothing but he paraded as a success.
Such a con man.

Disagree. Trump's base voted him in so he would upset things and so he would fight. Trump knows he's dead the second he becomes a normal politician. So Trump knows he needs to fight on things, even when they make no sense. Trump's formula is to always control the news, always be in the headlines. He's doing that, and mostly holding his base even as he enacts policies that hurt his base over and over.
As for higher prices...we live in an era of very low inflation. No one will blame trump if grapes are 50 cents more a pound.

Not to mention there's no way the Mexico tariffs are going to happen. None of his advisors in the White House are on board and the entire GOP is threatening to block him on it.
Understand that a lot of Trump's base are business owners that will be hurt by this and people with high stock portfolios that will be hurt by this.
His base is a little more diverse than the common bigot.

Do some reading Sally!
And yeah, opinion journalists are opinion journalists. I don't think that is controversial or new.
I do quite a bit of reading, agip. The Mueller report said no conspiracy. The Barr summary confirmed no conspiracy. The obstruction charges were bogus and we all know that. What, him tweeting amounts to obstruction? Are we in fantasy land? Just to show how nutjobbish the Left has become is when the radically left New York Times forbids their reporters from appearing on MSNBC programs because .... drum roll please ... THEY ARE TOO RADICALLY LEFT! lol. You can't make this stuff up. The New York Times is actually forbidding their reporters from appearing on CNN and MSNBC because those programs are radically left propagandistic programs. How funny is that?!
Of course, they are also not to appear with Hannity or Carlson because they are seen as propaganda machines.

The only base people with millions of dollars in the stock market belong to is the base of the almighty dollar. If they voted for Trump in 2016 it's because they thought he would make them richer (and so far he has). When 2020 comes around, they'll ask themselves the same question and pull whichever lever they think will increase the bottom line the most

you may be right, but how you can have any faith in the GOP to stop Trump on anything, I don't know.
They mumble and complain in public, they scream and yell in private...but in the end they submit like good aparatchiks.

U.S. TRADE ADVISER NAVARRO SAYS TARIFFS ON MEXICAN GOODS MAY NOT HAVE TO GO INTO EFFECT "BECAUSE WE HAVE THE MEXICANS' ATTENTION"
What does that mean?
Sounds like when I wrote "Maybe Mexico writes up some BS agreement that does nothing and he [Trump] will hold it up as a triumph."
Racket said the GOP would block it.
This says Mexico will "deal".
