My idea in response to this type of content is gather all of these Youtube guys (Bester, Ben Felton, anyone else in that 2:20-2:30 range) and have them race a marathon all together. The catch is, we have some random Kenyan guy watch a full one of their videos (10-20 minutes) and then go hunt them all down. Not only will they have to face the ego death of possibly losing to fellow YouTubers, but the random Kenyan is always closing down, to ensure imminent ego death.
I LOVE this idea so much! “Can a Full Time Influencer Beat a C Tier Kenyan?”
Stupid comment. 1:19 isn’t mediocre. The average HM participant finishes around 2 hours.
1:19 HM is about the equivalent of being a 4:45 miler in HS in terms of talent. For someone who bases their identity around training for years to run fast and being competitive, it is mediocre - though not quite as mediocre as a 3 hr marathon.
The average person barely graduates HS with 8th grade literacy and all C's. Thus, if someone studied hard to have simple grade level proficiency in all their subjects with a 3.0 GPA it'd be markedly above average, and yet from a college application standpoint it'd still be mediocre. Same concept here.

Still can’t really get my head around the economics of YouTube. There’s a content creator with less than 5000 subs called Gabriel something. Think he is friends with Ben Felton. He’s not slow by any means (maybe a tad quicker than Ben) but far from elite and he is on a 6 week altitude training camp and doesn’t seem to work other than content creation.
Can you really make enough money from less than 5000 subs to live like a pro athlete?? If so, no wonder so many people turn to YouTube!
He quit his accounting job a while back to do online coaching alongside the influencing. He’ll still be working doing coaching plans and making videos/reels while on the “camp”.
Why anyone would pay £130 a month for an online coach with no coaching qualifications (LiRF doesn’t count)and a short history in the sport is beyond me but whatever, good luck to him. He seems like a good guy and I enjoy his reels.
Do you really think any one actually is paying him for coaching? Saying you coach and actually having clients are different things.
Also having low T and reds (both undiagnosed) is just a fashion statement amongst the influencers now that a few high level guys have shown them how much attention it garners.

We need to make this happen!
Maybe pitch this idea to MJ. He will definitely find the sponsors for this event.
Nick Bester comfortably beat Cole today which is very impressive. Obviously a hot day and a weird course so wouldn’t expect quick times but for Nick to be beating a 2:16 marathoner over 10 years younger than him shows just how talented the lad is.

Both being beaten by Jessica Warner-Judd really shows their talent.
Bester’s gunna have to start mixing some serious PED cocktails to keep up with the leading UK women at this rate.
And Cole, god help us all if his marathon doesn’t go well. It’ll be more drawn out than Prison Break and a Phily Bowden race recap all in one.
I saw Bester and his gaggle last year at the big half but they’ve definitely grown. A group of maybe 20 last year to 30 in Wave 1 alone. Including a man in his 50s wearing a Boomshakalaka t shirt. They all wear the two piece ‘BEST ATHLETICS’ Get up and blow up second half. Absolutely fascinating to see in person.
What I always find strange about Floberg is his HR. It was 160 and I am sure he said his max was 190. If he is struggling to get that HR high on hard efforts then isn't that a sign of overtraining? Low glycogen? It is worrying.
160 is lower than his HR in marathons. He needs to see it for the red flag that it is and take a down week. He’s definitely running 13mi tomorrow to hit 90 again…
Like clockwork, from Sunday morning Strava:
3.18mi - 9:34/mi - 101 HR
"Feeling good. Not too sore. Gonna get to 90 on the week. Lifted last night. Ready to hammer these 5 weeks."
Now I have a perverse curiosity to see this play out. I don't know why I'm holding out hope that he actually survives this, but I am. Godspeed, Eric.
I smell blood in the water for Chicago. But I've realized that racing Chicago all-out and then CIM eight weeks later is the exact kind of thing that this thread would rightfully mock me for attempting given my training history. I can't justify running Chicago harder than 80-85% MP, so low 2:50's at best. If I see Floberg walking it in, I'll be sure to yell a heartfelt "go one more!" to help him hit sub-3:00. My sights are solely on CIM for Public Enemy No. 1, Truett Hanes.
Strong performance by Bester in the big half today.
He seems a bit of a marmite character (especially on these boards). For the non Brits here that basically means you either love him or hate him. No inbetween.
but there’s no denying he’s done a lot of good for the running community and is an extremely quick runner.
Yawn yet another poster trying to tear down Nick He’s not marmite at all If you see his insta and YouTube as well as in real life you will know that everyone likes the guy and yeah no sh* sherlock he’s extremely quick that’s an understatement if ever I heard one He’s run a sub 2:20 marathon!!!

All the more impressive when Cole has been grinding out 140 mile weeks while Bester has been boozing in South Africa and ran a 36 minute 10K last week.
Nick will eventually clatter and really hurt a 12 year old jogger who weaves in front of him during one of his "full send" last to first parkruns, while doing 3 min ks
Question for one of the YouTubers on here who knows stuff about algorithms (thinking Tim Grose, JB, AR etc..)
There is one particular YouTuber who very occasionally gets mentioned here. Not often but seen their name at least a couple of times. I find them really quite irritating so I have unsubscribed from them but I am constantly getting notifications from YouTube about their videos. Like every single video they do and they do a lot, especially shorts. Way more notifications that I get from any YouTuber I actually like, watch and subscribe to. Or any other channel.
It’s not even like they are a big channel - they have just over 13k subscribers by the looks of it. Which in itself is surprising as it is more than quite a lot of what I’d say are more popular channels. And their videos only ever seem to get views in the hundreds or lower…
So anyway, my questions are:
1) How can I stop getting the notifications?
2) Can YouTubers pay to increase there chance of people getting notifications? Seems weird I get so many for their videos
3) Can YouTubers pay to get fake subscribers? As I really struggle to see how they have as many as they have.
