What do we thing Floberg runs in his half marathon tomorrow?
Whatever the results, good or bad, I guarantee he says that it wasn't an all out effort. He'll say "6/10, so much in the tank, feeling so fit, so grateful for this community"
The man who throws up and sh1ts himself every workout (and probably will do after this race) does not know what a 6/10 effort is. He doesn't know how to hold himself back. Whatever he runs, this is where he is. Admit it
Wow, seriously?! That’s ridiculously quick. My local half was won in 1:18:xx and I thought that was quick! Guy has serious talent. If he lived in the UK he’d probably be classed as elite

Lol, even crappy run-through HMs are won a good 6-8min faster than that.
Decent race for bloberg. I think for a legitimate shot at sub 2:30 he'd have to be more like a <=71 min half even considering no taper. It's a bit concerning that he faded pretty bad in the last few miles as I could easily see him overestimating his fitness at Chicago and blowing up. If he runs smart I'd predict a 2:31 mid for him.
He says no taper but he had ran lighter mileage this week than previous weeks, and a similar build up to last year when he ran the exact same time.
What I always find strange about Floberg is his HR. It was 160 and I am sure he said his max was 190. If he is struggling to get that HR high on hard efforts then isn't that a sign of overtraining? Low glycogen? It is worrying.
He will try and gloss over this but he will be absolutely gutted. The pace he started he thought he was in 1:10 shape and he wasn't. I tell you now, get ready for a panic. Mileage will ramp right up in the next few weeks. Workouts will be too quick. This is now panic mode for the man who doesn't understand running
Still can’t really get my head around the economics of YouTube. There’s a content creator with less than 5000 subs called Gabriel something. Think he is friends with Ben Felton. He’s not slow by any means (maybe a tad quicker than Ben) but far from elite and he is on a 6 week altitude training camp and doesn’t seem to work other than content creation.
Can you really make enough money from less than 5000 subs to live like a pro athlete?? If so, no wonder so many people turn to YouTube!
He quit his accounting job a while back to do online coaching alongside the influencing. He’ll still be working doing coaching plans and making videos/reels while on the “camp”.
Why anyone would pay £130 a month for an online coach with no coaching qualifications (LiRF doesn’t count)and a short history in the sport is beyond me but whatever, good luck to him. He seems like a good guy and I enjoy his reels.
1:12:13 for Floberg. I don't know his PR but I think this maybe a new one. I am in Midwest and perfect weather for racing this morning.
I raced this race as well; just learned about Floberg from some folks on the cooldown, in fact. It was perfect weather for racing. Probably the best conditions I can imagine for an early September morning - no wind, 45°, sun. Many, many PRs (myself included!).

He would need to consistently find around 40 suckers to coach every month to replace his accountant salary. Without having the job security, career progression, pension, healthcare, and other benefits.
I often wonder what jobs they go back to, once the full time influencer gig runs out.

One time Floberg being honest about a race outcome. That's all I ask for, will never happen.

He’s moved back home to fulfil the dream so likely rent free, minimal outgoings, and maybe saved a few quid from his previous job to try it for a year.
Where many of these influencers that go full time fail is that they have absolutely zero clue on how to monetise their social media beyond online coaching.
Many will be back working a 9-5 within three years.

160 is lower than his HR in marathons. He needs to see it for the red flag that it is and take a down week. He’s definitely running 13mi tomorrow to hit 90 again…
As a repeated critic of Floberg’s training I have to say I’m impressed with his past few weeks. I would’ve expected this if he had done a better job in the late spring / early summer with base building. But he’s gotten to this fitness regardless. The body composition change is real. That workout looked smooth. These are numbers he used to only do on a treadmill but now he can do it outdoors. He is fit and has a great shot at a PR and sub 2:30 imo.
My own training has hit some bumps so while I previously thought I’d easily beat him in Chicago, I’m not so sure now. I don’t want to insert myself in his storyline but I also think it’s fair to acknowledge and congratulate him if he does beat me after I’ve repeatedly criticized him (assuming he is actually reading this thread). So I’m committing now to simply report if he beats me in Chicago and not insert myself any further.
But take a shower after your doubles.
I’ll also be racing CIM so I can do the Floberg + Truett Hanes sub 2:30 double whammy challenge.
Is he fitter or just lighter? I watched part of his recent video (which looks like it was proceeded by a diet video). He looks visibly trimmer, a lot trimmer, but I'm more concerned about the time frame in which this has suddenly happened, because we all know where this leads...
Those start last, try to finish first parkrun videos do seem very popular for some reason. Have seen one video from another somewhat less "famous" YouTuber that has got over 400K views and the one in question (and a 2nd one) did very well too. Anyway if you go to a multi lapper like Egham Orbit as I did the other week you get to do this anyway even starting "regularly" and being somewhat off the very front. I was kind of relieved did not bump into anybody.
This is the narcissistic sub-sub-elite running YouTuber dream content. Not only do they get to show off directly to their target demographic of newbie runners in person and hear them go "Woah! Look at that guy go!" but they also then get that double hit by uploading it to a wider audience of the same people on Youtube. Plus, they probably don't have to run much faster than 15 minutes, so right in their talent wheelhouse.
My idea in response to this type of content is gather all of these Youtube guys (Bester, Ben Felton, anyone else in that 2:20-2:30 range) and have them race a marathon all together. The catch is, we have some random Kenyan guy watch a full one of their videos (10-20 minutes) and then go hunt them all down. Not only will they have to face the ego death of possibly losing to fellow YouTubers, but the random Kenyan is always closing down, to ensure imminent ego death.
